What's upcoming? I'm a little out of the loop.

Off the top of my head, Fear the Walking Dead was automatically picked up for two seasons the minute they gave it the greenlight.

That isn't a renewal, that's just ordering 2 seasons instead of 1. Same thing happened to SG-1 on Showtime. It was 3 seasons, then 2 more, or the other way around.
It's still committing to two seasons before anything has aired. But okay, also with the Walking Dead franchise, Walking Dead World Beyond was renewed for a second season a week before the first season premiered, while the Daryl Dixon series was renewed for a second season a month and a half before the first season premiered.

Thank you for giving a few examples. I just think it's really surprising in a business sense to "renew" your show before anyone's seen one episode let alone the first season. Usually, you wait for S1 to finish, see how it does, "then" order S2.

It's always been very high-brow

Highbrow does not mean void of fun and comedy. :p
Highbrow meaning the show is about something and not cheap entertainment.
I absolutely love Voyager because it can be deep-thinking drama, funny, and WTF-grade scary all at once.

Discovery, Shorts, Picard, Lower Decks: all cancelled.
Is the Lower Decks ending final yet?
Is there a chance of a network pick up like Prodigy got?
Prodigy: any news on Netflix going for S3?
SNW: renewed for S3-4, yes?

We're supposed to get a Disco-era (as in distant future) Starfleet Academy show, yes? Why?
I read today that the new Section 31 TV movie comes out just after New Year's.
I'm more excited to see the Rachell Garrett pre-Ent-C more than the title character.

Anything else in development?
Welcome to the beginning of the end. Paramount's on the precipice, and hunkering down. Disco, Picard, Lower Decks: Over. Prodigy: Silence, probably over.

That Kelvin prequel theatrical movie? A tax write off, probably as fake as the last 4 movie announcements. It was supposed to be filming now.

I have insanely high hopes for Starfleet Academy. Smallville was huge. Buffy was huge. This is those, but Star Trek. It might be fantastic.

If Section 31 does well, they plan TV movies every 2 years, supposedly with the next 2 being Picard/Legacy and Discovery.

The live-action comedy sounds incredibly cringe to me, but I imagine they think it'll be cheap and might bag the Big Bang Theory crowd.

Haven't people been saying this is the end ever since Discovery came out back in 2017?

Disco, Shorts, Picard, Lower Decks: all cancelled or ended.
Prodigy: Netflix still hasn't decided one way or the other, have they?
SNW: 2 more seasons!
Starfleet Academy: Do you think it'll be good?
Section 31 film: Am I the only one who liked the trailer? Spies in Space!
Please, don't let the sitcom be like BBT, please, no, NO!

Yes but they meant doom was imminent, or at least said that for YouTube click money.

It genuinely looks to me, after these years, cancellations and less and less to fill the gaps, that P+ and Trek are on a downswing compared to a few years ago when the plan was year-round Trek.

Is it possible that the studio and streamer want to focus on fewer shows? Maybe SNW S3 will be 20 episodes instead of 10?

Nah, it's a way of claiming sophistication and intellectualism.

So Red vs. Blue was high brow? Damn, there's a sentence I never thought I would write.

Star trek was not always high brow at all. It was sometimes cheap entertainment. Because that's what it is at the end of the day: entertainment. Meant to amuse, not a treatise on life, liberty and all you can eat buffets.
