Stuff that make you wonder but not own thread worthy

TBOBW...

How come we didn't see an episode of what Earth was experiencing, from their POV, when the Borg ship arrived? (Like with an episode of Space 1999 showing all the people on Earth spazzing, nobody would care. Penny looks up and sees the big cube and screams "OMGz!" Even a cutaway would have taken away the tension...)

Plus, Picard knew of the deflector dish being retooled - as Locutus admits. But the same scene discussing the dish's being augmented also discusses retuning phasers to match. No Borg should have been taken down by a single shot at all (never mind the distribution nodes wouldn't have sensors? Maybe not, yet the ships were described as having redundancy so thorough that 78% of the ship would have to be destroyed before they were to be affected, but the ship would still operate effectively), or easily would have figured out the frequency range in anticipation for when the crew beam on board and zap their phasers as was shown in "Q Who" and all the Borg picked up on was the dish being retooled to emit energy in the same EM wavelength... though the Borg should otherwise know the general range of particle weapons as such and counter the entire range at once. I'm sure there was a phaser holstered in one of the decks carved up by the Borg to analyze from "Q Who" as well...

Did they ever explain why Troi and Worf were no longer a couple? Not one implication even in 'Generations' hell the series finale addressed this and that it put a damper in their friendship. And DS9 no mention when he got together with Dax. Now I would have liked some explanation for continuities sake, that is usually important to me. I do remember in an interview where Sirtis did joke about only the weird ones liking them as a couple.

There's nothing in Generations that precludes them still dating. I just assumed after the loss of the D, they go their separate ways.

Worf is clearly depressed when we next see him in DS9, and he spent time with the monks on Boreth. I doubt Deanna was along for the ride.

In the final scene Worf and Riker agree to not let certain things happen ;)
Do you mean of the Series finale? Would have liked to have seen Trois thoughts.

I am assuming they must have broken up "off panel" (comic jargon) before he went to Boreth.

The thing is, were Worf and Troi really even together? They got married in an alternate universe, hooked up in a hallucination, had whatever happened when they got de-evolved, and then got cockblocked by Picard's temporal shenanigans. They both probably took it as a sign that God himself didn't want them getting together.

Yeah, they were just dating and exploring.

The implication in All Good Things is that Picard interrupts their first kiss.

Honestly, everybody on that ship was so sexually repressed, it's a miracle they even had a few months being interested in having any kind of intimacy with one another at all.

I always chalked the whole thing up to respect. When Worf respects you, you know it... and when he comes around to asking for her to be Alexander's emergency guardian, that's frankly a level of personal respect & admiration Troi doesn't seem all that accustomed to.

She certainly doesn't get it from her mom. Riker was not all that reliable a source of personal affirmation, after years of bottling things with her. Hell, the entire crew seem more willing to confide in the bartender than avail themselves of her professional ministrations.

So, his respect might've really struck a chord for a minute there, & hearing about an alt universe where that becomes a real commitment must've been encouraging too, but ultimately for someone like Troi, I doubt respect is enough, for long.

Considering how so many shrinks are and the fact Troi is an empath, which is pretty invasive in itself, I can't blame the crew for wanting to talk to Guinan rather than her.

"The Best of Both Worlds"

Picard is angry and wants the only toilet back. That's what it's really all about...

;-)

He's tired of peeing in the fish tank, and behind things and letting the self-cleaning ship handle it.

In "Code of Honor", at 21:20 appx, there's a quick establishing shot that is clearly upscaled interlaced videotape as the original film element must not have been found? It's a "blink and you'll miss it" moment, unless you're good at spotting interlace lines in a zoom-in scene but later see another zoom-in scene but it doesn't look as jaggy. :D

My guess is the Borg cube never came close enough to earth for earth people on the surface to really spot the Cube with the naked eye.

Let's do a very back-of-envelope approximation to verify. In one screenshot directly after they report 'visual contact' (and before they magnify the image) we see the entire Earth (approximately 20 cm on my monitor) and the Borg cube (approx 3mm on my monitor). That's therefore a 20/.3 = 66.67: 1 ratio.

Now, we know that in reality the Earth sphere is approx 12,000 km in diameter, and a Borg cube has a 3 km diameter. From this, we might infer that if the Ent-D-Borg ship distance is denoted by 'x' , the Ent-D - earth distance, would, very approximately, be 12,000/3/66:67 x = 60x (this isn't exactly right, the true relation would be computed using trigonometric functions, but as the Borg cube solid angle is small to begin with, a linear approximation will do).

This in turn means that the Borg cube -earth distance is 59x at least (well, still minus the earth radius at most). Or, in other words, the Earth inhabitants would see the Cube in essence 59 times smaller than the Ent-D crew would without magnification. And it's already barely more than a dot on their screen, and I'm not even taking into account the hazing effects of the atmosphere.

And we know the Borg weren't coming any closer than that because the script already had a line before visual contact was established that 'the Borg halted their approach to Earth'

OK, enough nerding for tonight ;)

Just watched S04 Legacy, and right after she beams out near the end, there is a musical cue that really reminded me of DS9. I am a bit stoned.

Picard: (In The First Duty) The first duty of every Starfleet officer is to the truth.

Riker: (In Thine Own Self) My 1st duty is to the ship

Pressman:

Yet, Troi was the first person Data went to when he first experienced emotions, and he was concerned about the not so flattering part. As well as when he was experiencing his visions. She actually does not use her powers that way because she told her own mother that their ways are rude to others, that's what she did. Also, it was Troi who counseled Picard about his trauma with the Borg and later when he got captured by the Cardasssian's and tortured and when his nephew was killed. She actually acts like a real therapist where Guinan just gives you some basic advice that a friend would give. Even, with Lal she pointed out human sexuality it was something we knew already - like hand holding. She was good at giving feedback about different aliens, though. Lal also went to Troi when she was malfunctioning from an emotion overload. We won't even have to mention Barclay. I sometimes think this Guinan thing was embellished by the Troi is useless crowd. I heard it ages ago and now it's being so pushed like a fact and things seem to be being reimagined. Or it just got stuck in people's heads as a fact rather that an opinion or a preference in who you would prefer to talk to. I think Guinan is great and even trustworthy, but I would not really want to talk to her about anything too deep and just stick to friendly advice with her. The gaslighting is so true, lol. And her blunt approach to Tasha. I always wondered why she was so mad. But she did have insight into the cosmos and alien species of many varieties.
