The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

I kind of liked "The Continental" prequel miniseries. It was a very cool look at how Winston rose to power and developed his friendship with Charon.

Netflix is in early planning stages of 'A Different World' sequel staring Dwayne and Whitley's daughter.

Nobody wants to see a show about their daughter. Just bring back all the old characters and give fans what they want. A reunion movie were maybe some funny situations happen. We see where they are in life and what their plans are for the next chapter of their life as many of the characters are wanting to make changes to their lives or in some cases rediscover things they use to love.

You obviously haven't seen Cobra Kai.

I think showing college TODAY would be super needed and relevent, as so much has changed since then. I mean, i remember writing email on text only screens that only had green lettering.
What are they going to do about grandpa?
Easily write him off as passed away. Depending on if Phelicia Rashad even wanted a cameo, and if she would agree to it. It might not be even mentioned

The difference between Cobra Kai the show still pretty much runs around Johnny. The show has done a good job of playing with Nostalgia . Plus lots of karate action. I figure this new show would be more like "Grownish." Only it's being based on a very old show vs one that had characters spin of from a current day show in "Blackish." They were also characters created and used a lot on Blackish.

Despite the failure of the last Aquaman movie, James Wan still thinks it’s safe to go back into the water, as he looks set to direct a remake of the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

If it's not a man in a monster suit, nobody is going to care about this movie. People I think are tired of to much CGI.

I was thinking of him as well. Perfect fit for the role. Of course this movie will also have to deal with the fact that we already kind of got one of these movies recently in "The Shape of Water."
Indeed. And of course, as it says in the Variety story, that movie’s director, Guillermo Del Toro, was at one stage supposed to direct a remake of TCFTBL.

In other reboot news, the animated Ghostbusters series is going to Netflix and has found a showrunner https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/gh...ries-elliott-kalan-showrunner-1236103988/amp/

New Day of the Jackal trailer is here. Not sure I even knew they were remaking it. Eddie Redmayne looks more in keeping with fellow Edward, Mr Fox, than Bruce Willis, while Lashana Lynch is hopefully channelling her 007 mood again.

While it does look way better than the Willis version, and while Redmayne is definitely channelling Fox, I dunno, it can't compare to the original film (but then I guess it isn't trying to)

Hear these lyrics in your head from the arrangement of A Summer Place heard in the opening of The Omega.

"Ooohhh, they all real deaaaddd.

They're all so deaaaddd, yes dead, oh I dread, oh no, they're deaaaddd.

They're really deaaaddd."

Just about writes itself.
Add in Bowie's 'Rebel Rebel' but rewrite it to 'Neville Neville' and I think we have a hit!

The Willis version isn't even the first movie version. I've seen the Willis movie, and I feel it only shares a few things with the novel it was based on. The original movie is proving to be more elusive.

Sorry to be clear, the Willia version is shit, I was saying this can't compare to the original Edward Fox film because that's an absolute classic. I defy any film or TV show these days to make the checking of hotel cards as tense and exciting as the film does. Edward Fox is incredible, so smart and ruthless you almost want him to get away with it, and Michael Lonsdale is just as good as the dogged, world weary investigator on his tail in a performance that's the polar opposite of his turn as Drax.

Never disagreed :D I'm honestly surprised they even bothered to make the Willis version. It's not even a great Bruce Willis vehicle.

To me, it's like the original movie version of The Great Train Robbery with Sean Connery and Donald Sutherland vs the recent TV series remake. The scene in the movie atop the train is made even more visceral due to the fact the train was actually going faster than anticipated during production, making it more of a real struggle captured on film that feels all too real. Sometimes you just can't top perfection.

Someone by the name of Kia Jam, who owns K. Jam Studios, has purchased the rights to the script, "The Day the Clown Cried", the infamous Jerry Lewis movie, and plans to film an updated version.
