Your favorite Trek moments

I have two moments that were very impactful at different points in my life. I was in my early 20s when Star Trek III: The Search for Spock was released. The moment when Kirk realizes his son was killed hit me like a brick. It wasn’t the dialogue really, but very much about Shatner’s reaction and how he played it. All these years later, I can still replay that scene in my mind.

Fast forward to today, in Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Shaw (Todd Stashwick) is in the bar explaining to Picard the reasons behind his problems with Picard and the Borg in general. Unlike my first reference, this one is a 50/50 split between the lines written on the page and Stashwick’s delivery. It was beautiful and painful at the same time.

Spock's tear - Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
KIRK: Not for us?

SPOCK: No, Captain, not for us, ...for V'Ger. ...I weep for V'Ger, as I would for a brother. As I was when I came aboard, so is V'Ger now, empty, incomplete, ...searching. Logic and knowledge are not enough.

McCOY: Spock, are you saying that you've found, what you needed, but V'Ger hasn't?

DECKER: What would V'Ger need to fulfil itself?

SPOCK: Each of us, at some time in our life, turns to someone, a father, a brother, a god and asks 'Why am I here?' 'What was I meant to be?' V'Ger hopes to touch its Creator to find its answers.

KIRK: 'Is this all that I am? Is there nothing more?'

DS9: To the Death:

- Jem'Hadar First: I am First Omet'iklan. And I am dead. As of this moment we are all dead. We go into battle to reclaim our lives. This we do gladly, for we are Jem'Hadar. Remember... victory is life.
<Jem'Hadar acknowledge and leave>
- O Brien: Well, I'm Chief Miles Edward O'Brien. And I'm very much alive and intend to stay that way.
- Sisko: Amen. Let's get it done.

In "Ties of Blood and Water" when Weyoun drinks the kanar that he knows is poisoned.
Even better was Sisko's facial reaction right after he drank it. Pure gold.

So many great ones listed already. The franchise has an almost endless stream of excellent moments/scenes. A few of my favorites...

TOS, "BALANCE OF TERROR" - the end when Kirk walks out of the chapel. You see how it hurt him to lose a crewman, but with each step, steels him more and more until he fully regains his captain composure.

TNG, "Chain Of Command, Part II" - Picard defiantly tells Madred at the end, "THERE... ARE... FOUR... LIGHTS!"

DS9, "THE NAGUS" - Sisko watches Jake teach Nog how to read. Beautiful moment. Like his father, Jake knew that sometimes you need to break or bend a few rules for a greater good. (Jake was disobeying his dad to be home in time for dinner, but he disregarded that to teach Nog reading.) And the ending, when he just hugs Jake and tells him he's good and to go be with his friend. Another great dad moment.

VOY, "HOMESTEAD" - Tuvok's goodbye to Neelix, with his foot.

ENT, "UNITED" - at the end, as the camera pulls back from the conference room to the Vulcan, Andorian, and Tellarite ships around Enterprise.

Yes, Sisko's and Dukat's reactions to Weyoun drinking the poison made the moment.

And speaking of Sisko, a whole bunch of moments with him and Jake in "Explorers." Sisko pretending to have caught Jake hiding his story. Jake pretending he was in the Maquis.

"EXPLORERS" is one of my favorites of DS9. I love the father/son bonding trip. Not to mention O'Brien and Bashir getting drunk... great best friend scene.

Seriously, I can make an entire thread of my favorite Ben and Jake moments. Truly was a wonderful dad, and a LOT of fathers out there could learn from him.
