I have two moments that were very impactful at different points in my life. I was in my early 20s when Star Trek III: The Search for Spock was released. The moment when Kirk realizes his son was killed hit me like a brick. It wasn’t the dialogue really, but very much about Shatner’s reaction and how he played it. All these years later, I can still replay that scene in my mind.
Fast forward to today, in Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Shaw (Todd Stashwick) is in the bar explaining to Picard the reasons behind his problems with Picard and the Borg in general. Unlike my first reference, this one is a 50/50 split between the lines written on the page and Stashwick’s delivery. It was beautiful and painful at the same time.
