True. Even so, to me there's a significant difference between trying to keep your viewers and attracting new ones by telling high-quality stories, or trying to attract them by e.g. blatantly sexualizing a young female character.
They've done weirder things. They attempted a comedy show around Hitler and his Jewish neighbors, once (Heil Honey, I'm home!). Unsurprisingly, it was canceled after the first episode.
There's heaps of Star Trek characters I dislike or have zero interest in ever watching again. Of course you'll find fans of every Star Trek character on a Star Trek board, that still doesn't mean everybody likes or is interested in every Star Trek character.
And I would rather see a show with a new set of characters than one about already established ones.

I only remember a single episode, where there were kid versions of Harry, Dan and Christine. Probably somewhere around season three or four?

I recall there was an arc with Bumper Robison playing a kid named Leon whom Harry wanted to adopt.
This was earlier on, with a kid using a portable computer to hack school records. Very precocious, and an arrogant know it all l.
It’s real and as gross as it sounds.
Seems to be early 1990s ‘edge’ humour going over its own edge. I’m surprised to see Paul Jackson’s name on there (Red Dwarf), but yeah, there was a period in the 1990’s in the UK where there was some dreadful shit within televised comedy.
They recorded 8 episodes of it, but it was pulled from TV after one and then buried.

I do not like the DSC Mirror Universe episodes. Sorry. DS9's were shite after the first or second episode but man, DSC managed to make them even less enjoyable.
