I personally like Powerslave and Seventh Son the best, with Piece of Mind and Number of the Beast very close behind. What are your thoughts?

Absolutely no clue. I do like "Run To The Hills" and "Number Of The Beast" though.

Powerslave and 7th Son. Also, contrary to popular opinion, I think that Virtual XI was a kickass album, better than most of what came after 7th Son (especially the last two albums) ...

Damn.....that's my exact same choice as well.
A Matter of Life and Death is really high up the list as well though.

Seems like everyone has the same idea. The classic Maiden period was the stretch of '80s Dickinson albums that started with Number of the Beast and ended with Seventh Son.

Those are the 5 i voted for and they are the only 5 I now own. No Prayer for the Dying was a major let down despite spawning a number one hit and Christmas number 1 for them, and after Bruce left and returned they never reclaimed the quality they used to show and Blaze Bayley sucked, frankly. Still would see em live though, they are very good live still.

Good to see there are a lot of other Seventh Son and Powerslave fans out there. Seventh Son is possibly the best thing they've ever done (with some of their heaviest guitar work).

I thought the latest one, A Matter of Life And Death, was a fantastic return to form as well.

I would have to take "Piece of Mind" as an easy choice. However, I haven't heard any of the albums since "Fear of the Dark".

From Killers to Fear of the Dark, this is the best period ever. I don't particularly like Paul Di'Anno but killers was a good album though. Number of the Beast and Somewhere in Time are my favorite!

I haven't seen them since Bruce Dickinson's original farewell tour in 93. That was an awesome gig, The Almighty supporting, i was up against the barrier right at the front for Maiden.

I must check them out again before it gets too late.

Killers, Powerslave, and Seventh Son... for me.

I bought Virtual XI when it first came out and thought there were a couple of good tracks but I couldn't really get into it. Then I decided to give it another try about a year later and really fell in love with it. I think it's underrated.

But then, there are things I like about all their albums. Somewhere In Time is probably the only one I'm not that crazy about, but even it has a couple of outstanding tracks.

I voted "A Matter of Life and Death" - I like most of them, and obviously some of the older ones are absolute classics, but I've played the shit out of this album since it came out and I saw them play the entire thing live on a stage that looked like a wartorn village - absolutely fantastic, deep, beautifully written songs with amazing sound quality.

Number of The Beast followed by Powerslave. I don't have Seventh son.

I remember Maidenbeing frustrated that their 4th album was not considered better than their 3rd initially, finally sales did pass Beasts numbers, & they felt better. From interviews I read at the time.

Meh, I was never really that enamored of Dickinson as a singer. Killers and "Murders in the Rue Morgue" remain my favorites.

It's really hard for me to choose between "Piece of Mind" and "The Number of the Beast". I love both so much. I probably listen to PoM just a little more, so I voted for it over Beast. I also like "Powerslave" quite a lot. It would come in a close 3rd.

Well actually I can't even remember what Paul Dianno sounds like, I don't have either album he is on although being on an Iron Maiden kick right now I might get Killers. I do find Dickinson's operatic wail to be a bit much occasionally I must admit, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I didn't like the new album that much when I listened to it, I find them too clinically produced these days.

I like Dickinson as a personality though, he is always very witty and listenable on hs radio show and he plays great music..

Bruce has a good voice, but also what Ronnie james Dio describes as heat. Some singers lose their heat he once said in an interview, ( perhaps in reference to Ian Gillan? Not sure, twas long ago). He can throw down great show, & sing with the best of em as well. Some guys are great singers, but statues on stage, & some the other way round, good performers, crap singers. Bruce is both.

Arguably Maiden's greatest weak point was also their strength. Particularly their sounding same-ish. But if they changed their sound & style, they would have been written off as sell outs & all that. The people that buy their records like what they do, so why change it?

Motorhead once tried a change with Another Perfect day with disastrous results, Some bands get away with it, Rainbow sort of with Joe Lynn Turner, Street of Dreams, & Stone Cold era. But they also got a lot of heat for that.

Zeppelin the one band that could do almost anything & it would go over like diamonds, Beatles too I suppose.

If by "Iron Maiden" you mean "Survivor" then I say When Seconds Count.
If by "Iron Maiden" you mean "Iron Maiden" then Powerslave it is!
