One of the things they say is, Scotty will come in season 3.
We saw him in the clip they showed. He's operating the Transporter.

Absolutely. But we can still make fun of it and/or dissect it, as we do every nook and cranny of old Trek.

---

I really like SNW a lot, and look forward to season three. But I won't deny that the show can sometimes lean into itself just a little too hard. I don't think this clip was the best foot to put forward, but it won't stop me from watching and enjoying S3. :)

It will have more full on comedic episodes within its first 30 episodes then other treks had in their 79-140+ episode runs. I don't mind light hearted stuff but it seems the tread today is go full on serious and switch gears to full on situation comedy. It's too jarring imo. You just watch next we will have a character that has some kind of alien power to break the fourth wall and talk to the producers of the show. That will be the saddest day for Trek.....lol

I was hoping this would be a cool Trek sorta episode where our regular cast members learn WHY Spock is the way he is. Why he embraces logic.

It even sorta starts like that with them being shocked at the extremes of emotion they're feeling. I was like... oh sweet, this'll be an exploration of Vulcan philosophy. They'll get an appreciation for Spock. Maybe he'll have to teach them basic tenets of Surak to get through the mission.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut....it doesn't seem like it.

Liking Chapel and Uhura's new haircuts taking them closer to their TOS hair.
Maybe Uhura looking closer to Nichelle's TMP hairstyle, but not anything I recall seeing on Nichelle's Uhura in any TOS episode.

Chapel looks only marginally closer to Majel's Chapel.

Where is the logic of carrying a lirpa on a mission to repair a power station?

And there is plenty to be found in ST novels, some of them beloved and renowned classics, to indicate that Vulcan emotions, uncontrolled, are quite a bit more intense than Human emotions.

Saw it just now on YouTube. I already have a worm on my tongue about the SNW3 DVD set; how could my breath get any more, ahem, "baited"?

Well since we're on the topic, I once read a wikipedia on Star Trek where the writer defined Vulcans as high-elves in sci-fi theming. Anybody agree with that assessment (and yes I know wikipedia isn't worth the server it's stored in)?

Sort of. Definitely seen it before but I think the Vulcans like that timeless beauty associated with Elves. People don't typically associate Vulcans with fine or creative arts.

So, maybe sort of

I'm in the 'sort of' camp as well, mostly because in some RPGs I've played elves are sometimes portrayed as haughty creatures whose long life and "advanced civilization" makes them act demeaning toward other cultures they consider less advance or immature. So that's one aspect where they overlap.

I think Chapel screwed up by using the Kerkhovian serum. IIRC, it not only made Spock look human but act human as well. I don't think a physiological change would have altered Spock's lifetime of Vulcan training and discipline. So what ever that serum does it also works on a psychological level as well. That's my head canon for now.

Also nice call back to STIII in costuming

And to Enterprise
