Robert Downey Jr just showed up on stage dressed as Dr Doom.

So I wonder, is this Doom going to be a Stark variant, or are they just going to pull multiverse coincidence that they look alike

edit: They apparently confirmed on stage that he's a variant.
Well, damn. I figured those rumors were going to be wrong but I stand corrected.

Honestly, I'm not sure I feel about it. I like the idea of him playing a variant...but I rather the main Doctor Doom played by someone else. I guess we'll see how it plays out.

Am I right in saying that apart from the scrapping of the origjnal Avengers 5 they didn't announce anything new?

Can we consider Armor Wars. Shang-Chi 2, Young Avengers etc. dead and buried now?
Man, you're so eager to get rid of those films, aren't you?

And Young Avengers was only an idea rumored based on certain characters showing up.

This is the most random thing I’ve heard today. Is this a “Goku Black” situation?
You don’t even need an actor to play dr doom. Just a voice actor.

I hate the idea of a 60s FF (they have no intrinsic link to the 1960s, just like, for example, how Wolverine has no intrinsic link to 1974 just because thats the year he debuted) but RDJ as Dr. Doom overrides any complaints about that. He's a great actor, and I'm sure he'll play Doom differently then he played Tony. Just imagining him and Pascal confronting each other as Dr. Doom and Mr. fantastic gives me shivers.

As for the Avengers movie changes, I'm glad to see them. I'm not huge on Kang anyway, and obviously the actor they hired really screwed things up. The MCU really ended their SDCC panel with somehuge reveals.

Perhaps I'll be proven wrong, but this seems like a really bizarre move for them. I'm not a fan of the variant concept, as I think it cheapens out any emotional connection towards characters when they can just be brought back, but without any of the moments we've grown attached to. This is either evil Tony Stark, which could be interesting but feels like it cheapens one of Marvel's most iconic villains, or he's actually just going to play all Doctor Dooms, which seems like a bizarre choice to cast RDJ.

From the Brave New World part of the panel:

-Reiterate that they're trying to return to the tone of Winter Soldier for this movie.
-They confirm the identity of Giancarlo's character being...Sidewinder, The King of the Serpent Society.
-A clip is shown of Ross turning into the Red Hulk in the middle of a speech in front of the White House
-They confirm that Tiamat, the Celestial peeking out from the ocean, is in this movie and that through it they're going to formally be introducing adamantium into the MCU...due to that being the material on what Celestials are made of.
-Ford quips that if he was asked to grow out a moustache for the role, he would have done it.
-There's an amusing bit of Ford playing up "hulking out" on stage, lol.

...it's done.

-Russo Bros returning for Avengers 5 (May 2026) and Secret Wars (May 2027)
-Avengers 5 is officially retitled...as Avengers: Doomsday.

It does seem unlikely they're going to bring RDJ back just to keep him wearing a mask the whole time

Notes from the Marvel Studios Hall H panel at SDCC:

-The film's official title is: "The Fantastic Four: First Steps"
-Filming begins on Tuesday.
-The film was described as a "retro future of the 60s" for anyone still doubting that.
-Pedro Pascal will have an old school accent as Reed Richards.
-The Fantasticar is an old Cadillac that looks straight out of ‘The Jetsons’
-Early footage of Galactus was shown
-The F4 will be in both of the upcoming Avengers movies

But what about Deadpool?
I need to know why Thor was crying.

Nifty idea of introducing adamantium. Glad they're finally returning to the existence of Tiamat and the subsequent consequences.

Not at all surprised that the simplest explanation for the Red Hulk was the correct one.

But what about Deadpool?
I need to know why Thor was crying.
Spoilers, Sweetie![/River Song]

In other words, patience!

Have they actually confirmed RDJ will be playing a Stark variant and not just Doom? I’m seeing a lot of chatter about that online but, from what I can tell, it’s people making assumptions and other people then running with those assumptions?

^
The Russo's explicitly called him Victor Von Doom. Doom to Stark will be like Johnny Storm to Steve Rogers but on a larger scale.

Fantastic Four footage description

• Filmed in 4:3 aspect ratio

• Reed Richards is a science teacher with The Thing on a retro dating show

• Fantastic Four go to space and encounter Galactus

FF post credits is Dr Doom flying in to the council of kangs and killing them all somehow w/o showing the face of any Kang.
