Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Are sports stations running out of events to broadcast? They're airing USL Championship and USL League One soccer matches now. That can't be very profitable.

Only a couple of days ago I heard a US sports commentator saying that soccer had and was showing massive growth in the USA, Growth was particularly strong among young people and "diverse communities" (which sounded to me like a euphemism). If that's true, it may well mean that advertisers see USL coverage as delivering opportunities to access important demographics and, accordingly, that makes it profitable for sports stations.

Somehow there's a hornet in the master bathroom shower. Seeing as how every window on this floor has a screen on it, do I try to capture it and take it outside to release (and if I fail to capture it, who knows where it'll go next), or do I kill it?

I was banned from donating blood today. I've donated 10 times in the last 2 years, 25 registered total, (but closer to 30, one trip didn't save, and trips from when I was younger aren't listed).

I have had chronic coughing issues involving asthma almost my entire life. The last 5 years I've been on medications to control it. This year I finally got in to see a specialist.

My blood donation intake nurse is new. Didn't know what to do. My medications are permitted, asthma is permitted, chronic cough is ok as long as it's not infection and mine is a reflex & asthma issue.

But the new nurse went to get a second nurse and the second nurse said that I'm now banned because I went to see a specialist - so my chronic cough & asthma are now "under investigation" so until the "investigation" is over and I can provide documentation supporting that I am not allowed to donate blood anymore. The fear is I may pass out during the donation. I pointed out I'd donated 10 times the last two years with no issue, but, nope, banned. They even told me they were marking it in my file so if I come to give blood again I won't be able too.

What the actual fuck. Try to do something good, something helpful to society at large, and one random person blocks you, not because anything in my situation changed, but because I finally got to see a respiratory specialist.

And of course to prove I'm safe to donate blood in the future I'll have to pay for a letter from the specialist.

Had to go through the same rigmarole for donating plasma due to needing a CPAP machine.

Yes, they have extremely tight rules (at least in the US. I imagine Canada is similar) because they don't want people to pass out. Same reason why I have to hear the potential side effects, including the fatal ones, every year.

As someone who cannot give blood and had my life saved by an emergency transfusion I take my hat off to your dedication. Thankyou.

Today I learned what clover mites are. Tiny red not-spiders barely the size of the tip of a pen. Washed the kitty litter box and left it outside to dry in the sun and I guess they were attracted to the heat on the surface. I wiped a few away with a paper towel and they left giant streaks like you wouldn't expect from something so tiny.

Mitey revenge.

Whenever garbage pickup is on a holiday, they always pick it up the next day so I didn't take the garbage out. Well they picked it up on the Fourth of July! Since it's 85-90 degrees here, I had to take the garbage out of the bin, put it in a paper bag and stick it in the freezer so that it wouldn't be gross and smelly next week.

I didn't watch it, but apparently the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks show on NBC had a lot of musicians and very little fireworks.
