What Would It Take For You To Go Vegan? And If You Won't, Why Won't You?

I will never go vegan.

Vegetarian, or more likely pescatarian... I could possibly see myself doing either of those at some point. But since cows give milk and hens lay eggs, I do not see any ethical issues with consuming those things. Besides, I've seen too many vegans who were completely obnoxious about it... last thing I want to do is give them what they want.

My problem with pescetarianism is, I only really like breaded cod, like Long John Silvers makes, and of course that's deep fried so it probably wouldn't be that healthy. I also love crab legs, but again, I couldn't make a lifestyle out of that.

Neither could I. I'm much too lazy to eat crab legs. That requires work.

There was an entire chapter of our ‘Military Etiquette’ book at the Academy about ‘How to Eat Lobster at a Formal Dinner’. I’m not kidding, it was over 30 pages…

Anything that takes THAT long to get from the plate to my mouth… is too much damn work.

Cheers,

It was better to be an enlisted man, They slap the crab legs and lobster tail on your metal tray, pour on the liquid butter, and you move through the line. I used the knife handle as a hammer and removed the crab meat using my fingers. The USN for the enlisted is very informal.

Well, I'm not vegan but I came close when I saw an undercover video of Pigs being slaughtered . It was so graphic and cruel. Given I wasn't really expecting anything good, but it even went over my expectations. The dog meat industry in Asia has finally been stopped. It was money well spent. I originally went on a low carb diet probably the enemy diet of Veggies and Vegans with all the meat and dairy. I have diabetes now, so I have to stay away from most carbs. What I refuse to eat is Lobster though since many are boiled alive. Oh, and veal since they are brought up in such harsh conditions.

JD, as long as you’re not That Vegan Teacher in promoting veganism, I’m cool with you. I can’t be vegan, but we can be cool with each other.
Thanks. I really try not to be annoying about it, but sometimes I see sometimes I just see something that frustrates or annoys me so much I have say something and this is only place I have to get that kind of stuff out of my head.

Honestly, I just love Steak too much. You could almost convince me to give up Pork and Chicken..... but Steak? Couldn't do it.

If I have a say in the matter, my last meal on Earth will be a T-Bone, medium rare, with a side of Potatoes and Broccoli. Served with a lovely pint of Guinness. It's my favourite meal that I treat myself to at least once a month.

But I have nothing against vegans. More power to ya. Just don't try to take away my Steak.

You’ve done it in the right way, I think.

I used to have a friend that was vegan and she made us feel bad in our own home when she was staying with us for eating meat. She calmed down later though as someone speaking about how vegans can be. I felt like responding to it.

Also, if people have a problem purchasing vegan or vegetarian products Aldi's if you have it in your area has many of those type of options. I wish they had as much sugar free options though.

Also, I remember the first season of ST: TNG that Riker said something like we no longer enslave animals for food. I would be all for replicators for food. Instead of killing animals. Nothing else much expanded upon later other than a conversation between Keiko and O'brien where Obrien said his mother never believed in a replicator because she thought it was unhealthy. So, it wasn't universal or enforced.

Anyway, this thread made me think of more things to do with the subject.

My 1st girlfriend in the late 80s (the decade not her  ) was Vegan. That was really tough back then as there were not the choices there are today.

I did a couple of years in the late 90s as a vegetarian but it came to an end one weak night after a few too many beers that ended up in a kebab.

If I did it again I don't know how vigilant I'd be on somethings, for one I only found out recently that a lot of beer isn't vegan or vegetarian because of the use of a fish bladder in the process, don't know how many breweries do this but it's definitely a practice used.

Someone mentioned wool earlier, see I wouldn't know if you can or can't wear wool clothes etc as the animal is not killed in the process. Things like that I'm not sure about, but cutting out meat from my diet I could do I think.

I've posted quite a bit on here about my veganism,

No way, vegans never do that
So my question is, what would it take for you to go vegan? And if you absolutely will not under any circumstances, why?
Nothing could make me go vegan. Saying that I have vegetarian meals a few times a week and enjoy that very much but there's just nothing like putting a big tomahawk on the charcoal grill or some baby back ribs on the smoker. The process, the flavors, the textures, it's all quite wonderful

I won't ever become a vegan, humans are omnivores not herbivores, as mentioned above, only in first world countries you could obtain all the extra stuff you need to prevent yourself from getting sick.
Do I agree that most humans in first world countries eat too much meat? Yes, I do, I cut down on it here and there.

So now to throw in a neat one, laboratory grown meat, would a vegan accept that? No animals used in it so...

Also, modern domesticated sheep grow so much wool that their mobility can be impeded and they may die from overheating in the summer months if they're not sheared at least once a year. It would be cruel and inhumane not to shear them.
