Spoilers Lord of the Rings TV series

Earlier in May 2024, Boniadi said she paused her acting career in September 2022 to "focus solely on the #WomanLifeFreedom uprising in Iran and to advocate for the people in my homeland who have been risking everything for freedom." She continued to say that a film called 'A Mosquito in the Ear' was the "very special project" that convinced her to "split my time between my day job and my calling as an activist."

Sounds like she's doing what she values. I can't be disappointed in someone pursuing their values, especially advocating for freedom for others.

You'll be really disappointed then, to hear that she's mostly stepped away from acting to focus on her activism.
Disappointed but not at all surprised since I've been following her on Twitter for years (she's been especially vocal about Iran). I haven't been on Twitter much in the past year so I hadn't seen anything about her scaling back her acting. This would certainly explain why she won't be in season two.

Didn't like the character so I don't mind that she's gone. The show has too many fanfiction characters anyway, and I didn't like their attempt at breaking lore by inventing a new Elf/Human relationship. There are only three completely canon elf/human pairings, one debatable canon one, and one canon unrequited romance (the elf loved the man but not vice versa). They were not supposed to be common, they were supposed to be extremely rare andin general have a huge effect on the history of Middle Earth. Its another reason why the Elf/Dwarf romance in The Hobbit was so stupid.

I think the post the IGN article said that it wasn't because of her activism, I was wondering if it was because of the move to England, but she's British, so I doubt that was it either.

Looking it up, Isildur's wife is never named by Tolkien. All she has to be is be from Numenor, and presumably be one of the Faithful, to match the very little that can be gleaned about the character.

It started with the very first continuity error in the very first fan fiction. Fandom much?
My fandom experience has included costuming, fan fiction, RPGs, and being told I was "wrong" to like TOS instead of TNG. But, that limited to in person hang outs with friends and not the "Does it have canon on it?" stamp of approval before attempting to enjoy it. I see the question "Are these canon" in regards to so many things now I'm like "I'm starting a Canon book shop. Only canon items will be sold"

Also, the inner English teacher pedantic in me wants to scream and rip out what little hair I have left because continuity and canon are not the same thing.

Really glad they picked Morfydd Clark as Galadriel. She always makes such a big impression.
Hope they can finish all 5 planned seasons, because i don't think anyone will invest so much money in to another LOTR series. This will be the one and only.
It might not be on this scale, but I would be shocked if we didn't get other LOTR series in the near future. We've already gotten this and we're getting two new movies over the next few years, I doubt WB is going to stop there.

Do I even need to say that the barrow-Wights don't exist at this point in the timeline, or is everyone familiar enough with the show to already expect that?

The Witch King of Angmar was said to have sent the spirits/creatures/etc to infest the Barrow-downs, and even if the spirits are older then that (they might be fallen Maiar originally loyal to Sauron or morgoth) they are only called barrow-wights because they're mostly known as being in the barrow-downs. The 9 rings haven't even been forged yet, and it took a long time for the 9 men who received them to become the ring wraiths, they apparently spent years as powerful kings/sorcerers/etc before succumbing to their rings completely, so there isn't a Witch King, either. The barrow-wights come to the barrow downs in the lore sometime in the Third Age, after the kingdom of Cardolan falls to war and plague.

I guess the show will have them be (I'm assuming) Sauron's servants and have them exist before being in their more commonly known place and function. I bet they'll tie it in with Tom Bombadil too, since in the books Bombadil saves Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin from the Barrow-wights.

I don't mind more barrow-wights showing up, as long as they're not the barrow-wights that Frodo & Friends encounter in LOTR, since those are in a very specific location and could only have existed after a very specific point in time. (The fact that they're still gonna be called barrow-wights is kinda eh, but I get it, it's simple and recognizable.) The Witch-king probably learned his magic from Sauron--who would, at one point in the Third Age, be known as the Necromancer--and I see no reason why Sauron wouldn't have utilized such magic to further his cause in previous ages.
