When I read this Voyager novel I thought it was average. It was okay but never read the second book because I was tired of borg stories.

I found the idea of multiple people becoming Borg on Earth a bit too far-fetched. It also seemed like a bigger threat than the books made it out to be.

Yeah, I found the actual homecoming bits excellent, but the Borg stuff didn't hit my sweet spot. Golden's next duo before the gap was also interesting but flawed, essentially exploring DS9 subject matter with VOY characters. Still, I'd have been very curious to see where Golden would have gone if she'd stayed on as the Voyager writer.

I read 'part 1' Homecoming.. what the heck was 'The Hand' stuff? It was awful.. i felt like the publisher accidentally added some other graphic disgusting novel between chapters and luckily it didn't get resolved.. no idea what it was about.. maybe it's in the second book but i don't even want to know .. if i see that italicized 'between' chapters thing, i will ignore it completely. If nothing makes sense because of it, then that is fine, at least i won't have to read that.

I felt upset because I read ST novels knowing they are not overly violent or graphic, but this was awful and I felt a bit betrayed to be honest. I'm surprised more people don't mention this part.. strangely stuck in between the pages.. i felt like it was someone's sick twisted joke on the Star Trek reader ..

(after the awful "The Hand" part including 'wetness soaks her bottom' first pages ?!?)
The first chapter was really good in that it gave us what the lousy conclusion of the TV series didn't give us after 7 years of viewing 172 episodes and waiting for them to get back home. The Borg stuff (really? again?) was farfetched and the author seemed to make all that ST represents just fly out the window. It wasn't enjoyable after the first chapter.. no, it was disappointing for me.

still can't decide if i want to read the second book because the story didn't even begin yet in the first book. Probably won't bother even though i have it.

A child abuse victim's memory of the one who abused her, also known as her father and the hand he used to strike her.

I can't separate this from it's continuation in This Father Shore. Although it was nice to see what happened next to the Voyager crew, I was bothered by the child abuse stuff, and that it was just used as a means to create a "damaged" monster whose only salvation was death. Fuck that shit, Star Trek should be a world where survivors of even such horrific abuse should be able to move on and live normal lives.
Still mad, a decade later.
