Where else would they be credited? Why would the location of "key scenes" determine where an actors credit was placed?
As you've pointed out, the fact that they're in the end credit signifies they aren't supposed to be main characters.

I think it's odd to populate the bridge with relatively unknown characters. The bridge has many key scenes. Usually you have the main characters dealing with the most important scenes. That's why they're the main characters.

Clearly, your opinion differs. No biggie. Neither of us is right or wrong.

Nitpick: The S1 segment in the episode's climax has to be set before the episode The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Cries of the Lamb, given Landry is mentioned to be alive and Butcher's Knife is the episode where she was killed. However, during that segment in this episode, Michael is addressed as "Specialist Burnham." Lorca didn't grant her "Specialist" status until the end of Lethe, two episodes after Butcher's Knife.

That's a hold over from TNG. even they realized it was a mistake. So they moved Geordi to Engineering and Wes to the academy. Troi sort of quietly went "downstairs" too. Worf and Data were the only non-command mains who stayed on the bridge. Comms and Science weren't even part of the mix.

On a semi-related note, the various interchangeable blonde girls who sit at the helm immediately after Wesley left tend to amuse me, mainly because you can tell the actresses are trying their damnedest to do something memorable with a role that just consists of spewing jargon and saying "aye sir." I mean, I get it, the actresses probably thought they had a pretty prominent part on what was one of the more popular TV shows of the time, so they probably thought they landed themselves quite the career stepping stone. But it's amusing all the same.

Wheaton left for personal reasons, not part of some plan. Geordi still came to the bridge regularly, at least if I'm remembering correctly. I do know he was often saying "Captain, I've transferred engineering to the bridge!" Troi was always there. The TNG bridge was filled with mostly regular characters from the start to the end. Same on DS9. Same on VOY. Same on ENT. Same on SNW.

I'll agree it doesn't have to be that way. LD does it very well and I feel like we still know the LD bridge officers better than the ones on DIS. But I'd prefer if they had developed those DIS characters better. Perhaps that would've required better actors from the start? Not sure. It's not a deal breaker but a preference.

True, but when he left they never filled it with a regular again.
Geordi was mostly in Engineering. But yes he would come up on occasion, but he wasn't stationed there. They mostly brought him up for some "face to face" acting.
Same for Troi. Most of her focus episodes were away from the bridge. She rarely has a reason to be there, once they got past her "sensing" phase. She had no bridge job.
As for Voyager, Tuvok, Tom and Harry had bridge jobs. Seven was back and forth. Torres was down in engineering. The EMH was in sick bay as was Kes.
DS9. Half the cast wasn't "bridge" personnel. Ops was for Sisko, Dax, Worf and on occasion Kira.

But the point stands that most of the characters on the bridge (or Ops in DS9) were main characters that we knew fairly well. They did have the random person sitting next to Data after Wes left. But mostly main characters on all the Trek shows.

Like I said, LD does it well. So it can work. My personal opinion is that they missed the mark on DIS with that.

Half the people in this picture probably don't even have names :p
Ok, sure, there's always a wise guy in the room. :)

Not quite half. 5 of the 9 characters in the scene have names. But guess which characters are driving the scene and which ones are literally faceless figures in the background? And the ones we do know, we know very well.

We do get the random changing lady next to Data though and we can actually see her face.
