Gave it a nine. Really enjoyed it.
I think what it comes down to is this! If there are any nit-picks with episodes we can all evaluate and say them but if we enjoy it, that's the final determination.

I not only enjoyed these 2 I felt overjoyed. It was a blast.

I thought i'd give season 5 a go after skipping most of 4. Can't say anything has changed...Burnham even more grating as a character this season, i'm genuinely now questioning SMG's competency in carrying the lead on this show. dopey performances, flat writing, it feels like the weird step-cousin compared to the rest of the franchise. I've always said, if this show was just called Discovery it would be tolerable. It shouldn't be carrying the star trek name at all.

Every season feels different from the last, so it's always changing.

That makes no sense. It either is "tolerable" or not. Whether it's called Star Trek is meaningless.
That's the same thinking that gave us "Enterprise", sans "Star Trek:"

"grating"

I wonder what that's all about. Subconscious racism? Conscious? I don't know. But I've seen this pattern before. Let me guess, you left the word: "woke" out to not trigger anyone?

So let's get this straight: this show is perfectly fine, the performances, etc you mentioned but because it has " Star Trek" on it, it's horrible...

Make any sense to anyone?

As I just posted in the General thread and elsewhere before, this is the closest thing to basic Trek themes and presentation since TNG, within a modern framework of course.

Subconscious racism? This is the weakest and most disgusting way to approach a debate by throwing the "you are a racist" line at someone (its not the first time this has happened to me here when challenging discovery fans, they seem to get off on ganging up on people and shouting racist, and i'm not even white to top it off, sorry to disappoint you). Its an argument that gets rolled out by you and others here mostly because you can't hold a discussion about your favorite show and you go screaming racist anti-woke. I genuinely feel embarassed for you and those of you that liked that comment as well. Is this what Star Trek fandom has become? Tribalism?

If you have watched Star Trek you know it is always held to a higher standard than other sci-fi shows. The Star Trek name carries weight. This show in my opinion doesn't know which direction to take itself in 5 seasons of TV. And I stand by my point 100% - Compared to all the other series leads (Lower Decks and Prodigy aside) SMG does not even get close to feeling like a series lead. No subtlety in the perfomance. You can now go and continue screaming racist again.

Where's the standard so I can look it up and make sure that my Star Trek is the genuine Star Trek?

The name only carries weight to me because I enjoy Star Trek, even the shows I don't fully enjoy. But, it's "weight" is purely subjective.

I admire your civility, @Commander K.

Subtle racism exists. It's a fact. Some people can't get past certain aspects of Discovery, also a fact.

Whether there is racism here is not decided, but the signs aren't promising.

I'm sorry to interrupt whatever's going on... actually, I'm not... but I can't believe I forgot to mention something here. Something that's in DSC Season 5 Episode 1.

While I was watching Raiders of the Lost Ark (no, this isn't a bait-and-switch), I mentioned that something in the film reminded me of something I saw in trailers for DSC Season 5. What is it? It's this:

Burnham on a motorcycle in the desert escaping danger reminded me of Indiana Jones on a horse in the desert escaping danger. Worked even better for me than it normally would've because I'd just seen Dune: Part Two in the theater about a week earlier.

Was there motorcycles in Dune? Just curious ;)

No, just lots and lots of desert. And lots of desert.

Great movie. Great two movies. A friend and I wanted to watch both back-to-back. Part I on DVD, then go to the theater. Then I did the math and realized that would be over five hours of viewing in the same day. So, we broke it up instead over two weekends.
