Fifth Season is Final Season

This has ruined my day. :wah: I had hoped Trek, in general, could have escaped the worst of the streaming bubble collapse, but I guess the signs were always there. Disco stopping at 5, Picard with 3, Section 31 in development hell and Prodigy being murdered in broad daylight. Sigh. I hope beyond hope that Lower Decks comes back again in comics and books.

, Picard with 3
Picard was only planned to have 3, it wasn't cancelled.

SNW was renewed for a Season 4 at the same time as LDS was announced to be ending.

So Trek isn't going away.

It don't think this has anything to do with the collapse based off comments Kurtzman made recently. They just don't want the shows to run very long.

Oh no! I’ve been dreading these news. It was kinda inevitable they would end it sometime soon, but I still thought we might be getting a couple more seasons out of it. Production costs must be only a fraction of the live action shows.

Oh well, we got a solid number of seasons with some of the most entertaining Trek ever. The characters, the setting and the voice actors really grew on me and are now some of my absolute favorites ever. Here’s hoping they will be able to give them a satisfying send-off. And also, hopefully there‘ll be a way to see them again on future productions. Starfleet Academy should bring on Mike McMahan.

Can't they shop it around? Give Netflix some more?
The only reason that worked with Prodigy was because Season 2 was already half way done when it was cancelled. Paramount/CBS also paid for the season to be finished, not Netflix.

There is no Season 6 of LDS in production to shop around.

I'd agree with that if we were getting more than a paltry 10 episodes a season. :(
Scripted TV that can't be produced without special effects and expensive sets is basically moribund. Only 20 episode seasons you get anymore is filmed on location schlock like Law & Order and cheap 3-5 set sitcoms.

And yet somehow they're still going forward with Academy, the show almost nobody wants.
