Spoilers Variety about the future of Star Trek

This image is way more fun.

ETA: the comments on that article though, ooff. This article is written by someone who "gets it." Why is something needing to be gotten about Trek?

Nice! That must be Strange New Worlds’ version of the hazmat suit they wore on the original Star Trek! The gold pattern on it seems to be identical or very similar …

That still from Section 31 looks kinda cheesy, though.

Good catch.

I look forward to an Excelsior class that's 50% bigger.
As it should really be as the ships stated dimensions in Trek don't account for the amount of decks, let alone size of sets created for shows. Almost all the of the ships from original through Berman year should actually be much larger.

Oooh so are we in the movie eras or just after?

Going by Kacey Rohl's age and appearance, we're probably about 30 years after TUC.

You'll get no real argument from me.

Text on the screen in the background of the Strange New Worlds shot seems to read “CHIMERA BLOSSOM”. This doesn’t seem to ring any bell as far as established canon is concerned. So I wonder just what its properties will be. Looks kinda thorny or possibly tentacle-like.

You know, the longer I look at it the weirder this image kinda gets. Don’t get me wrong, it looks pretty cool and all, but it’s strange how some characters/actors are shown so often (Kirk is on there seven eight [!] times) and it shows so many obscure side characters too, while others are weirdly omitted. Here are the main characters/cast members that are missing …

Walter Koenig
Marina Sirtis
Gates McFadden
Denise Crosby
Diana Muldaur
Terry Farrell
Alexander Siddig
Cirroc Lofton
Nicole de Boer
Robert Beltran
Roxann Dawson
Robert Duncan McNeill
Robert Picardo
Ethan Phillips
Garret Wang
Jennifer Lien
Joelen Blalock
Connor Trinneer
Linda Park
John Billingsley
Mary Wiseman
Doug Jones
Anthony Rapp
Wilson Cruz
Blu del Barrio
Alison Pill
Isa Briones
Evan Evagora
Gabrielle Ruiz
Dawn Lewis
Jerry O’Connell
Fred Tatsciore
Gillian Vigman
Jess Bush
Christina Chong
Melissa Navia
Babs Olusanmokun

I'm drawing a blank on two people in that picture. Who is directly below Picard era Riker and who is directly above Odo?

I think that's Simon Pegg.
And Quinto. Though I was kind of presuming your post was a joke.

Some of the likenesses are quite poor though. Particularly Whoopi, and early TNG Picard. Also Tim Russ, Saldana and Alice Eve. Many of them look AI generated, but not all.

The version on the Variety website is larger …

And yes, this is pretty sweet!

Thanks!

considering there is so much Kirk…especially Shatner…I don’t think it’s something that came from Paramount. So my guess is that whoever created this just pulled more images that people would recognize. Hence more TOS, TNG and JJ-Trek than other series.

I’d love to see a version that contains every main cast actor.

That science lab with water under it could be cetacean ops :D
The orange suit reminds me of Spock's volcano suit from STID, especially the helmet!

Nobody as in producers or nobody as in fans?
Because I think fan responses to the idea are pretty dang high.

From what I've seen online, I'm not sure those fans know what they're asking for.

Some of them seem to expect Picard Season 3.5. A show with all the TNG cast back, plus Seven and Jack, pretty much continuing where they left off. I've even seen them wanting to continue on with the Enterprise-D.
