Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

So we're going to have two mysterious older women in recurring roles, her and Mrs. Flood?

I know the Season One thing isn't new but it's still weird to see this.

Sadly, no one asked her if this would stop the Yanks getting preferential treatment when it comes to new episodes of Doctor Who.
I seriously doubt that such a question would sway enough people, or even the right people, to effect such a change, even if she was asked that.

It’s now official that Moffat will write an episode

Yes, okay, fair enough - apologies to everyone I’ve very slightly misled - I am in fact writing an episode of the series of Doctor Who. Exactly like I said I never would. What can I tell you? There was begging, there was pleading but finally Russell agreed to let me have another go - so long as I got out of his garden. Working with old friends and a brand new Doctor I couldn’t be happier. Sorry I was a bit reticent on the subject for so long. It was all part of an elaborate plan that would have delighted millions but at the last minute I forgot what it was.”

"Steven Moffat makes an explosive return".

I think we can say the quickly scrubbed Christmas episode news wasn't a mistake now too.

Next up, Chibnall...

In light of recent events let's review that odd quote of Moffat's from a few weeks ago:

"The truth is, if I say anything negative about Doctor Who it goes everywhere, like boom, everywhere, right? It doesn't exactly bring joy to the world that I just say something negative about Doctor Who."

What a wonderful birthday present! I can't wait for his return.

Not surprised Chibnall turned down the invitation to write an episode, he just finished his tenure as showrunner, Moffat's had 7 years since he last worked on Dr. Who.
Indeed. Much like how Davies didn't return during Moffat's era (and I'm pretty sure Moffat did ask, but I could be mistaken) and Moffat didn't return during Chibnall's. I look forward to Chibnall returning when the time is right for him, presumably during the next era, whoever might be leading it.

There would be a lot of pressure for Chibnall to knock it out of the park. Probably stands to lose more than he would gain with that move at his point.

A simultaneous release is a simultaneous release, it’s going to annoy someone. As an American, midnight GMT releases are great for me (especially when I was living on the west coast), and I was always annoyed by midnight eastern time (and especially midnight pacific time) releases. It’s ironic that the best time to put out a new episode is midnight three to six time zones ahead of its home market, but I don’t think that’s sunk in, yet.

He did indeed. Moffat invited RTD back every season he was showrunner, RTD declined each time.

IIRC, both RTD and Moffat have admitted that coming back to write content for the Lockdown Bonus Material back in 2020 reignited their passion for writing Doctor Who.
