Robin Williams will be a hard act to follow but I often think it’s a shame that Walter Matthau was too old to play Popeye by the time they did a live-action adaptation.

Whatever they do they need to set the story in the past. Nothing in Popeye really works well in a 2024 setting.

You know who would probably love doing a Popeye voice? Tom Hardy. And he wouldn’t be a bad physical fit either.

I like that choice as well. I do wonder about their age. Exactly how old is Popeye suppose to even be? Makes me also wonder if we might see a younger version cast that show them before they are fully the versions of who we think of them as.

I saw Popeye three times on a double bill with Galaxy Express 999 when it came out in theaters. I own the soundtrack because it's written by Harry Nilsson, who is one of my favorite musical artists. I don't understand the hate for it. I think it's perfectly cast and the location work on the island of Malta adds to its charm.

Yeah, I feel that it's a movie that's only gotten better with age. I mean, the characterizations are nearly spot on and bring the comics to life. I don't get the hate for it either.
