Let's face it, if a movie was the same as the book people would still complain
Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman actually said the exact same thing in response to the people who complained about The Walking Dead TV show changing things from the comics. "If they left things the same, you'd be complaining the TV series is pointless since it doesn't offer anything new the comics didn't already provide."

Overall, I enjoyed my experience with the DV Dune movies. The performances, visuals, score, and all the technical aspects are impressive and an excellent modern take on the Dune story.

I am still more partial to the 2000 miniseries version. Their take on the Harkonnens worked for me the most, and the story felt complete. Dune: Part 2 did not make it clear that Chani knew that Paul's words about Irulan were only for political reasons, even if we as audience members can infer it.

A landmark film. As in all visual adaptations this is a shorthand of the book, but one of the most successful ones I can think of.

The differences from the book mostly work for me, though I did miss some of the things left out of the book. The Guild was sorely missed.

The 2003 mini-series dealt with the holy war offstage, I have a feeling we'll see some in Dune Messiah.

I can't imagine giving this less than an A+. It's good for Herbert, good for Villeneuve, and great for scifi movie adaptations.

Good movie.. but like reading a book before going to see a movie adaptation .. you miss what they cut out.. which is okay, but them changing stuff isn't.
No Leto
No Allia
Boo.
They did do great on Pauls.. well.. Cowardace .. he knew if he went south billions would die. But he also knew what he had to do to save humanity and he choked. He wanted freedom but fate had a big F U to that.

And if they wanted to show an alien planet could have made Gedi Prime orbit a red dwarf sun. Show a tidal locked planet with mostly infared animals and plants.

Let me ask you this - what is the long term story purpose of Leto, Pauls' and Chanis' son? What impact does it have on the larger story other than causing pain to Paul and Chani and to show Sardaukar mean business.

Alia was in the movie, she just wasn't born. Somewhere, either in this thread or the other, someone mentioned a believable reason - good child actors are very rare and perhaps none of them could portray an adult in a small childs' body and make it believable. I expect to see Alia in Messiah, maybe as a kid or young teenager but for this one i believe it was the better choice. It was weird enough for Jessica, Paul and Alia to be communicating directly.

I was surprised at the many changes in Dune Part 2 but thinking about it i really liked them because Villeneuve kept the core of the book while making the book more accessible to non-fan movie audiences. I would have liked to see some favorite scenes from the book, Jamis's funeral or Thufir having conversations with the Baron and running his own little war from within the Harkonnens but i understand why they were cut or else we'd have a 4 hour on our hands and this you can't sell to the general audience. Some might even be angry at the open end of the movie when most of them, including me, expected a sort of closed off two parter ( which it was and wasn't at the same time as weird as that sounds).

For me the whole "Love Story" between Paul and Channi was.. well wasn't.. She was just kinda there, helping, but she has a huge chip on her shoulder with the "Prophacy" and Pauls place in it, and she NEVER took Pauls side, you could see him Trying to not be this person until it was not an option, and Channi boo hoo'd and ran.

A child would have shown there love towards each other, and exactly, would have shown the Sardaukar being ruthless.
As much as I liked Part 1, Part 2 has just found me wanting..

Though I did like Jessica using her DON'T QUESTION IT VAAKO voice on Channi.

How are people feeling about the decision to make us all outsiders watching Paul, and not seeing his visions at all post water of life/hardly at all pre?

I thought it was a unique perspective, that also allows an additional level of ambiguity over what is happening.

Again, another choice I personally would not have made, but one that works well for this movie.

I'm fine with it. The supernatural elements of the books ( Kwisatz Haderach, Other Memory, Bene Gesserit Prana Bindu techniques etc) have all been toned to not lose the general audience and turn this into a superhero movie set in the far future. There was enough left of these concepts to give it that unique spin and story possibilities and i thought Paul's visions in this book that become ever clearer the longer he is on Dune ( and come into full effect once he drinks the Water of Life) and that torment him was very well presented.

So i'm not sweating that they cut down on the strange stuff. It works for the book because the book has more time to tell an expansive story, movies are extremely limited compared to big books like Dune.

Oh boy.. this flew completely under my radar, possibly because i'm really not into MMO's but apart from state of the art technology used in the game this looked like crap and a cash in that doesn't take care to be faithful to the source.

Dune: Awakening "is set on Arrakis and takes inspiration from both Frank Herbert's novels and Denis Villeneuve's Academy Award-winning film while exploring exciting new possibilities in the franchise."

Translation: We took a beloved book series and a very successful movie to make money and we don't care too much about the peculiarities of the source because we will invent crap that was never in either the books or the movies.

I'm still bitter about Dune Generations.

I've known about it but I don't play online games so I haven't been following it. I did get spice wars and it was fine. Haven't played it since it first came out on early access.

Blue ray is up for pre order at major retailers in various special editions. I'm now seeing if any are IMAX yet though

There's Blu Ray in Imax? Who has the system at home to take advantage of Imax quality apart from the increased aspect ratio?

I just saw the movie yesterday. It was overall a very good movie. We need a Dune part 3.

Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Charlotte Rampling, Dave Bautista and Stellan Skarsgård all came back to their roles without skipping a beat.

1a) I really hate House Harkonnen for what they did to House Atreides but that being said, i just like how we were introduced to certain aspects of their culture. Denis Villeneuve did a good job on that. I also like the Harkonnen soldier's desert combat uniforms. It makes sense that they would rely on technology to keep them cool in the desert. They are overall a brutal people who deserve our hate.

1b) The Fremen culture is also interesting. It reminds me of the Bedouin and Berber cultures with the face tattoos and headdresses. That being said, I actually dislike deserts. It is my least favourite landscape. For me, the only negative part of the movie was that there were too many desert scenes with the Fremen culture. I know that they are a desert people but I wanted to see more of the Fremen city architecture, their indoor culture and less sand.

2) I felt that Florence Pugh and Léa Seydoux did a good job as the new characters introduced in this part 2. I felt that Christopher Walken was underwhelming in his role. I know that he is a good actor but he was kinda lackluster for me in this movie. I like Austin Butler's character. He usually plays nice or good guys and it was interesting to see him as a baddie.

I can't wait to see Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides in the next Dune movie. I am a fan of her.

I didn't really see that child as important. Paul had more than enough motivation already and we know the other side are pretty brutal.

I also think Zendaya gets way more to do than the original Chani who just seems to be more plot for Paul.

No Guild Navigator.
No Thufir.
No the worms are the spice.
No the sleeper has awakened.
No born Alia.

WTF, Denis?
