What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

You and the others are all wrong, of course. Into Darkness is the best of all the Trek films and it’s not even close. (Weelll…it is the “controversial opinion” thread.)

The only two TREK films better than 12 are 6 and 3. 3's the pinnacle. 2 is a glorified stunt with temporary tragedy which 3 will set right, after 3's legitimate tragedy.:borg:

Is it much of a controversial opinion when I say I like the first two TNG movies, but the last two less?
Nope. (Not to me anyway.) If I were going to just sit down and watch a TNG movie at random it would be Generations. Every time. Then MAYBE First Contact. The only time we watch INS or NEM is if we're watching them all or if we just watched GEN of FC kinda recently.

You're... You're not serious, are you? (This is someone who thinks TSFS is underrated. Even by me.)

6 gets worse for me every year. It got worse for me while I was writing this post.

I find all four TNG films to have zero rewatchability. If I had to be forced to watch one, it would probably be Generations, and none of that movie even made a lick of sense. I could rewatch TWOK, TSFS, and TVH a million times, however.

I completely agree, I have no desire to rewatch TNG films but I can watch the TOS films endlessly. Even TFF, although it is least watched of the bunch.

I more or less enjoy all the Trek movies.
But Insurrection is my favorite, hands down.
I love the beautiful ships, space (Briar Patch) and surface (Ba'ku) scenery. It's not about saving Earth. It gives me nostalgia because the Star Trek: Armada mission "Paradise Revisited" was one of my favorites in that game, too.
Plus, it fits into the wider 2370s tapestry - DS9 and VOY are going on and in their stride (Imho).

The only movie out of all of them I’ve only watched through once is Nemesis.

Every other time I’ve tried to put it on, I’ve fallen asleep, gotten immediately irritably bored or regretted it as soon as Jim Robinson turns up and turned it off.

It is the nadir of cinematic Trek.

Every other film, even Into Darkness, has its merits and parts to enjoy.

I think there are some aspects of the 2009-2016 films which I find stupid, jarring or too implausible which take me out of the film and drag those down for me.

I took it to a preference revealer to sort it out. Disclaimer, results can a change daily.

1. Wrath of Khan
1. Undiscovered Country
3. First Contact
4. Search for Spock
5. Voyage Home
6. Generations
7. Final Frontier
8. Beyond
9. Insurrection
10. 2009
11. Motion Picture
12. Into Darkness
NA. Nemesis

I do think the Zefram Cochrane from the novel Federation is superior to the one from FC, but then James Cromwell's performance has endeared itself to me since 1996 and now it's hard to see anyone else who isn't the late Glenn Corbett or Cromwell in the role. FC's Cochrane isn't remotely how I'd have depicted him but it works better than it should.
Co-signed. I like *First Contact*, but *Federation* would been amazing on film.
