Law & Order General Discussion Thread

Stabler just has to go undercover as a serial killer and the serial killer they're trying to catch won't recognize him.

Is there anything realistic about Stabler's suspension and IAB investigation? The kid shot a cop.

If you're in Canada, the Toronto show begins tonight.

I'm officially jealous. :sigh:

Edit: Vincent D'Onofrio wants a revival of CI! That's very interesting to hear. He was great as Goren, I hope he can come back!

I also hope that Kathryn Erbe is up for it 'cos I really liked her as Eames. I kept forgetting that on the original CI, she was the senior detective!

I really wish they'd drop this terminology. In the NYPD (and pretty much every major metropolitan police force), there is no such thing as a junior or senior detective. There's simply detectives 3rd / 2nd / 1st grade, or detective / detective sergeant / detective lieutenant.

Weirdly, the normally insane SVU has been the only Law & Order show to address this (once, after Amaro threw a fit, Benson told him to settle down if he ever wanted to make it to second; in another, Rollins admits that she knows that she'll never make first grade because of her addiction history).

Think it was also the in the background with CI that Eames was the senior of the two (I guess because of she had more time as a detective than Goran).

Actually it's MY terminology. I don't think they ever actually said that on the show. My bad.

In any case, I really didn't know that Eames outranked Goren. I mean, it's understandable, since the only reason that show existed at all is because it's the Vincent D'Onofrio Show (although I also l liked Jeff Goldblum).

There's a recent Michael Rosenbaum podcast on youtube where he's talking with Vincent D'Onofrio and it touches on CI (the 16 hour days, shooting the script in order) and he talks about the initial reaction from from the producers to his mannerisms as Goran.

Pretty much summed as as "wft?" but when he spoke to Dick Wolf about about, he was got it and was onside right away.

Well whaddya know, Bruce Altman has played the mayor of NYC in two different universes! (L&O and Blue Bloods)

Not the same mayor, obviously. ;)

Interesting in that his Blue Bloods mayor (in the first couple of seasons of the show) was a decent guy, but this last L&O ep he played a vindictive son of a bitch.

I love that scene where he and the assistant DA drink whiskey. They're nice to each other but it's a very menacing scene.

Edit: The L&O wiki says that the new DA (Tony Goldwyn's character) is named Nicholas Baxter.

It's used at least once on the show (in the season 17 premiere, Van Buren says she had a hand-picked replacement for Fontana as "senior detective" but Cassady was forced upon her by the higher-ups).

I think the judge on OC made a mistake and is trying to protect his son for something he didn't even do. At least that would be something different if it goes that direction.

I don't agree...

I think the judge knows, or at least suspects, that his son is the killer. Otherwise, why go to the trouble of having DA Cahill killed?

I mean, what else could "How about a THANKS" mean?

Oh and I checked the L&O wiki. Guess who's coming to OC?

CRAGEN!

I really like this Westwood arc that OC's come up with. It's one of the most interesting arcs yet. It's like the anti-Wheatley.

And it's always great to have a Carradine on the show! (Robert was on CI awhile back)

Kind of wish there was more to the killer, like maybe he only killed one of them and the other murders weren't his. But the story isn't finished since there's a bigger bad guy.

Interesting way to tie IAB guy to a previous season, but I had forgotten all about Gus Hanson and had to look him up.

Could somebody please remind me, what is the significance of the drug sample that Stabler asked Bashir to investigate? I totally forgot where that came from. :alienblush:

Also, in one scene Stabler speaks to Randall on the phone regarding the care facility where their mum wants to go. I'm pretty sure that the voice is in fact Dean Norris, but why wasn't he in the credits?

In an earlier episode, Elliot was taking out the bathroom trash in his house and found the wrapper under the trash bag and suspected it had drug residue on it.

I don't understand what the angle the new DA is trying to play here. I thought the whole point of McCoy retiring was so that the mayor couldn't help get a lackey in there, but Baxter seems to also fit that bill.

Is Law & Order: Toronto playing south of the border as well?

NBC renews Law and Order, SVU, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Chicago Med. Organized Crime is up in the air.

It's been kind of slow. The lead detective is doing his best to be just as odd as Goren was.

though they differed one thing from the original tonight.

Eames always drove in the original (Goran described it as “her thing”) so Graf should have been riding shotgun.

As to the case, what a shitty situation at the very end but how do you help someone like that?
