It's either that or P+ isn't ready to announce it.
If one were to take the quote at its word, it would say they are not doing anything with it at the moment.

Possibly. At the same time, I have to wonder: Why would Paramount allow him to have mentioned it at all? And why would Jonathan Frakes or Akiva Goldsman openly throw in their support? It seems like something Paramount wouldn't allow them to talk about, whether they were considering it or not. Something's off about this: because if it's absolutely not happening and absolutely not being considered, then it makes Matalas, Frakes, and Goldsman look unprofessional. It was never CBS/Paramount’s idea in the first place. It was just Matalas’s wishful thinking that fans took as some kind of gospel.

You can't always take these quotes at their word, that's the counterpoint.
Just ask Andrew Garfield.
If they cared about outcry, nothing would get made. Not that they care much about those, granted, but the fans do, and I can already see the outcry at things. (We're talking about a fandom that got upset about Worf having a white beard, for crying out loud. lol)
If you want to look at it like that, only Diehard Trekkies care about any of the streaming series. To John Q. Public, the only Star Trek they're aware of (when they're not confusing it with Star Wars) is TOS, TNG, and the Abrams Films. That's the cold, harsh truth.Something like this definitely won't bring in new subscribers to Paramount+ (because frankly, only the die-hard Trekkies care about something like this and they already have a subscription).
A new series that is based on a TON of existing Trek lore in every new episode... yikes.
Lots and lots of canon restrictions etc.

I think at this point, it's not about getting new subscriptions through Trekkies. It's been over six years now. It's about making sure they keep those subscriptions.
They don't care about some outcry, that much is true. But they do care about a LOT of it, it's like you said, they have to keep the Trekkies around somehow.
"I don't believe in the no-win scenario."Basically... it's one big Kobayashi Maru situation.![]()
That's what Terry wanted for a while -- a "Where Are They Now?" anthology series (Terry: "We could have Ferengis one week and Klingons the next! Don't you want to know what happened to the Klingon Empire after the Dominion War?
If P+ is concerned about how to promote it, they can tell the truth and call it a sequel to Star Trek: Picard (no one seems to be too bothered with Better Call Saul being a spinoff of Breaking Bad).
What happened with him? I'm not familiar with that situation.![]()
The number of people who are unequivocally saying nothing is happening is staggering. Could it be an NDA issue? Sure. But one could also just say nothing at all if that was the case.
Oh. I know. If nothing else, the existence of the Flat Earth Society is proof of that...People will think what they will regardless.
