Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

it's a shame this year we have Section 31 and the final season of Discovery (the only saving grace being its the final).
Star Trek should be embarrassed because of this...such a rotten shame...

I think the 3rd season of PIC might be the 11th or 12th best season of modern Trek, but I didn't use my toes to count.
That's OK; I can't count that high anyway.

I don't think so, for a couple of reasons. The biggest one was the DS9 benefitted from anonymity. It was able to go in to that long form storytelling in a way that the suits wouldn't care about. None of these Treks, especially Picard and Discovery, would ever escape that scrutiny, especially when they are trying to build up a new streaming service. So, I can't find the sadness when DS9 succeeded because of near anonymity at the time,

I guess I should also be fair, and note that the best long-form storytelling in modern TV either was slightly before the streaming era (shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc.) or was based on existing novels, which meant they had a rough draft of the show's entire arc just sitting there.

By nature, Trek needs to just wing it to some degree, whether season by season or episode by episode. I just wish they'd actually come up with story ideas that - you know - actually built on things established in the prior seasons.

Oh, RMB is definitely worse. Inglorious Treksperts and Trekyards are just YouTube blowhards who build a reputation around negativity. Not that that's an excuse or a defense, and they still shouldn't have been legitimized by Matalas or anyone involved in an official capacity by the show or franchise, but ultimately they are a lesser evil compared to RMB. A reminder, RMB is the guy who stated a woman should be sexually assaulted in public just because she wrote an episode he didn't like. Matalas really should have done his homework before sitting down with him.

Jesus. Really? Ugh!
I'm not sure the specifics, but he once said Kirsten Beyer should be forced to "endure the Game of Thrones walk of shame" because of an episode she wrote that he didn't approve of. I never watched Game of Thrones, but according to people who have, this "walk of shame" basically involves an entire village gang raping a woman.

And this is the kind of guy Terry Matalas chose to associate himself with in order to promote S3.

No such thing as bad press, amirite?

Yeesh! Reminds me of the Trekyard idiots wishing death upon Alex Kurtzman.

I get not liking something. But how fucking hard is it to not be a total fuckwit and wish death or sexual assault against someone because you didn't agree with their creative decisions?

What's wrong with these people!?

If they said that, they haven’t seen it, because in no way is that what it is.

A character is made to walk from one end of a city to the other, naked, while getting jeered and having stuff thrown at her.

It’s far from pleasant, but in no way could it be described as gang-rape.

There's no description of rape in the books either.

TrekYards has also done interviews with Mike McMahan and others from Lower Decks. But it's been a few years (I think, I stopped following the channel after one of them said that shit about Kurtzman)

I still remember when RMB was doxxing people on twitter that were being rightfully critical of the Axanar debacle that eventually made him persona non grata at Paramount. The man is a blowhard and stupendous asshole, and anytime on Treksperts (before I stopped listening last year, anyways) that the topic of RMB being a dick would come up, Altman and Dochterman would just laugh it off or say the listeners were being too sensitive or some stupid shit like that.

I also recall Matalas getting a lot of flack for doing interviews with RMB last spring and he gave a bullshit answer to the effect of "I don't have time to research everyone, you know." Just not a good look.
