Law & Order General Discussion Thread

On OC I'm honestly surprised that Jet is so down with this A.I. thing. I would have thought she'd be against it.

And I REALLY hope that techno-geek Vargas isn't a permanent addition...

Oh and I can't believe that
they're shipping Jet and Reyes now? The hell? :wtf:

Hurts to watch any scene with Stabler's mom. She seems to be a lot worse. :(

Of course, we needed a Stabler longs for Benson scene. And a scene where Benson is tortured because she thinks she has't done enough. And a scene where Terry Serpico plays the worst commanding officer/police officer ever.

That "jammed up" about Cosgrove sounds like the writer's taking a dig at him, when they easily could have written him out as moving somewhere for his family or something.

Rinse, wash, repeat.

I sense a setup with that detective Parrish....possible replacement for Muncy?

Nice to see Bruno's sticking around.

I agree about McGrath. That guy's an asshole and a half. He seems to go out of his way to hate Benson's guts. Almost as bad as how Mayor Chase treats Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods.

And did they have to have a press conference in the pouring rain? :guffaw:]

Edit: Carisi and Rollins' son Nicky is officially the cutest baby ever.

I liked it. To be honest, it was nice to see something like that where it doesn't feel like pulling teeth. (OC)

As for this weeks ep for SVU...

It was terrible. Right up there with L & O from last week. Not something that I'll rewatch. Poor writing, white savior complex and cliched lines.

L & O was an improvement from last week and OC continued to be good.

Is SVU ever gonna wrap up this Maddie thing?

Oh, and as for the mothership:

It's obvious the wrong verdict was reached. That AI-generated clip should never have been admitted.

As for OC:

- Dean Norris is great. But that's a given.

- I hope we don't see too much of that hate crimes captain. (And what happened to Murphy? Last time we saw him, that was his post!)

No I think the verdict was correct but McCoy's call on the video was very bad.

Bruno seems to be a permanent fixture in the SVU squad, yet Kevin Kane is still only listed as a guest star and hasn't yet joined the main cast. I wonder what's up withi that.

I mean, it's obvious that Bruno is a good detective and fits in quite nicely with Manhattan SVU, so what's the holdup?

Crediting issues, as I understand it (under SAG-AFTRA bylaws, regular cast members get a certain day rate at minimum); Kane has a number of upcoming projects that will necessitate his absence from the show for several episodes.

Leaving the mothership midseason is....

Sam Waterston

And the replacement is...

Tony Goldwyn

I can't say I'm shocked; Waterston is 83 and has been taking his commitments to the show season-by-season because he's been unwilling to sign a long-term deal.

Tony Goldwyn is an excellent replacement, though.

Wasn't expecting a Corner Gas actor (Gabrielle Miller) to turn up on SVU!

yeah, thought so. I'm just glad he's there at all.

Tony Goldwyn is an excellent replacement, though.

Agreed.

(Fun fact: Not only is he a L&O veteran - as Frank Goren - he also directed an episode of the mothership, "Thinking Makes It So".)

In thinking it's a storyline through the season. It seems to have triggered Olivia's PTSD.

Well, as of the latest OC, we find out that

Stabler's dad was abusive
.

It treated it like some sort of big reveal. But I thought we already knew that? From an earlier episode?

I mean, Joe Sr. was a dirty cop and everyone knows it, so it's likely, but I thought this new thing was specifically mentioned before. Ah, well, I'm probably misremembering things as usual.

I mean, since Joe Sr. was a father who existed in the L&O universe, of course he's going to be portrayed in the nastiest manner possible. Fuck, does Dick Wolf have daddy issues or something? Fathers always get treated like SHIT in the L&O universe. Hell, even Elliot himself has problems. I think Carisi is the only L&O dad who doesn't get the short end of the stick. And that's only because 1) Carisi is a main character, and 2) Nicky isn't.

Edit:

You Chief McGrath haters might consider this good news. At tthe end of the latest SVU ep - the one where his daughter is raped - McGrath appears headed for the unemployment line. Because he pulled a gun on his neighbor (whose son was the rapist) and threatened to kill another suspect. So it looks like he's outta here.

Sucks, really. This was Terry Serpico's best episode! And it's always nice to see Amy Carlson again (she plays McGrath's wife).

From memory, it comes up in SVU's seventh season, the episode Ripped, in which Stabler brutally beats a father who was assaulting his own son (for using steroids), and eventually Stabler goes to see Dr. Hendrix about it, during which he discloses how much his old man was an utter piece of shit. Something about smashing a diorama young Elliot made for a school project and then beating the tar out of him.

Also, well-adjusted people with healthy childhoods don't become cops, this isn't a new thing in fiction. Shit, even Inspector Javert was born to and raised by a drug-addicted mother living with rats in the slums.

Ah yeah, Ripped. That's the one I was thinking of.

just checked out that ep on the L&O wiki and: The kid from that episode, the son of Elliot's old partner, is now playing Jim Kirk on SNW!

About OC, though:

Randall said that he didn't tell Elliot about Joe Sr. beating up Bernie because Elliot would have taken Joe's side. But if Elliot was also getting beat, why would he do that?

And I admit I'm a tad confused as to what Curry is going to do now.

That final conversation between her and Benson was a little vague. Is Curry going to become the new bureau chief?

Was thinking that Curry was going to become that. It certainly looked like it.

If you're in Canada, the Toronto show begins tonight.

Graff is no Robert Goran but it was a solid watch.

There was an article in the Toronto Star about the representation of police and the legal system here and I get the impression that the writers weren’t that familiar with the original CI.

L and O was a pretty decent ep. Liked Jack getting to be a junkyard dog for one last time. 7/10

SVU was an ok ep tonight. 7/10

But they need to step up on the EO front, meaning a mention or something, not just things that you have to squint to see. The avoidance is just weird and makes things seem odd. I don't get their Elliot allergy.

OC was a pretty good ep tonight. 8/10

Appreciated the EO bit. But it's sad that it's the only one doing the lifting. SVU needs to step up and do better.

In regards to the character/characters in general. Not just the ship.
