NFL 2023: A different shade of green for Aaron Rodgers

Since Mike Macdonald, Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson can be interviewed now, I'm assuming we'll have announcements from the Commanders and Seahawks soon.

Going for it on 4th down was actually the correct choice from an analytics standpoint, and I appreciate that part of the reason why the Lions got as far as they did was their aggressiveness, but he should have trusted his kicker to execute and keep the game within one score if the 49ers scored again on their next possession (which they did).

It wasn't a poor decision, just not the right one.

Yeah there’s a huge difference between being up by 14 and being up by 17.

I would have kicked the FG when it was 24-10.

But then again, they got where they got by following Campbell’s philosophy, so what the hell do I know?

I hope this changes his philosophy to at least consider not making every fourth down attempt. He kicks one of them and its a different game. Neither the defender bouncing a pass off his facemask to Aiyuk or Reynolds failing to catch the ball or the Gibbs' fumble happened in the flow of the game, whereas Campbell shot himself in the foot.

Who do you like for the Super Bowl?

The Niners strike me as worse on defense compared to 2019 - but significantly better on offense. Chiefs are the opposite: better defense, worse offense.

I'm probably picking San Francisco. I just think CMC gives them that little extra this time - and I can't see Shanahan blowing this yet again (or can I?).

Ben Johnson is staying with Detroit. That's great for the Lions - not so great for the Commanders.

Surprising, but worthy of respect. He sees the potential of Detroit's offense and wants to see how far he can take that unit.

The longer the Seahawks go without a head coach, the more I wonder if the bloom is off Dan Quinn and if GM John Schneider is looking more for an offensive minded candidate.

Slowik has announced he is staying with the Texans and not considering a HC job elsewhere. The Texans also announced a big pay raise for him. LOL

This is a good thing, especially for Stroud. Also saying on the coaching staff is QB coach Jerrod Johnson who was interviewing for some OC jobs. I'm glad to see the coaching staff staying somewhat intact.

He'll flounder in both settings, Seattle will just take a little longer.

The hoodie is not a good coach without Tom Brady.

I think that's a little extreme. Dude got to the playoffs with rookie Mac Jones under center, for God's sake.

What is probably more accurate is that he cannot, under any circumstances, be allowed to have GM authority in addition to being the head coach, and extreme restraint needs to be put on his choices for his assistants. (Not entirely dissimilar to how Iowa's athletic director fired Kirk Ferentz's son, Brian, as the team's offensive coordinator this past season, because he had proven himself to be woefully incapable of the job.)

The question is if Belichick will agree to such conditions. If he can swallow his ego and pride and accept them, Shula's record is his.

Seahawks to hire Ravens DC Mike McDonald as their next head coach.

Commanders are the only team remaining with a head coach vacancy.

Good hire for Seattle, he was among the best candidates on the market. Watching his defenses up against Shanahan and McVay's offenses twice a year will be great.

Washington will just have to go with whatever's left. Belichick is still out there... but I don't think there's been much mutual interest between those two parties. Aaron Glenn? Dan Quinn? Who knows.

I think it depends on what they do at #2. They'll probably want an offensive guy if they take a QB. If they think Howell is the answer, then they may promote Bieniemy.

I don't see any way a new coaching staff and GM won't be leaning towards picking a QB at that spot even if they like Howell.
