I'm disappointed that they still haven't brought back the Sheliak so far

Guess I'm not alone with this!

Instead of the Gorn being so much of an issue during the late 2250s/early 2260s it would also have made a lot more sense. Because the treaty of Armens was signed around the same time as the war between the Federation and the Klingons in Discovery.

Hope they'll finally come back soon and we'll learn a lot more about them.

The number of times I have thought this! I thought I was the only one! I loved the Sheliak.

Before Disco premiered and they were teasing that it would explore some past incident from Trek canon that had been referenced and never seen, I was like "Sheliak!" It lined up perfectly in the timeline.

Maybe they'll still get there, they're still close enough...

Yeah, the Sheliak are a pretty forgettable species from a very forgettable episode of TNG. If they ever get revisited, it'll likely be as a joke on Lower Decks.
Forget the Sheliak entirely in that case, I want to see the Cerritos visit wherever all the people living on that planet ended up and see what the lady who had the hots for Data is up to.

Never mind the Sheliak, let's meet the Husnock! They're still alive in the SNW period.

"A species of hideous intelligence, who knew only aggression and destruction"

The SNW Gorn? Only if they had the guts to say the Husnock was the name of a Gorn offshoot, like Romulans to Vulcans, and all of Gorn was actually wiped out in TNG....

Gorn have been seen and mentioned in post TNG shows so that wouldn't work

I would like to see them. I liked that got a unique look and not just aliens with funny looking ears or bump on the forehead. I also kind of like the idea that they can be very dangerous to deal with but do have a moral code in that they stand by their deals. If a peace treaty says something they have to do they will stick with it.

The Barzan were even more forgettable, and that worked out fantastically when modern Trek revisited them. Brief though her run was, Nhan is one of Disco's better characters, and they wove interesting context about Barzan society into her arc that both connected to their one-off TNG intro, and also justified itself dramatically on it's own merits.

It's interesting how a lot of people default to assuming that you would be limited to what the first episode showed of the Sheliak, and there could be no expansion beyond that. Like, sure, yes, if you don't do anything beyond what that one episode showed, then there would be no point. Why would that ever be the approach the show would take? Everything that's been picked up from the past so far has been picked up and expanded upon.

The Gorn have always had fans' attention. They're a good threat. Most viewers couldn't tell you what a Sheliak or Husnock is. It would be name-checking continuity porn.*

*See: Star Trek - Enterprise.

There is far more comedic potential in the Cerritos dealing with the Sheliak and trying to get every word of everything exact.

And the Cerritos vising loads of TNG words. Hell, refit her with a Slipstream drive and revisit Voyager's encounters!

The Sheliak would have worked better as a comical nod to the Vogons from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. As a litigious existential threat to the colonists, they fall flat. A species of long-winded, trigger-happy perfectionist lawyers is best played for laughs.

The beauty of using the Husnock is even people who know the term don't really know anything about them other than they were all killed. Basically you can create a brand new alien race and tag it with a little fan service.

I would rather not see the Sheiak on SNW. I didn't care for having Nausicans or Ferengi during ENT's run either.

Leave these 24th century races IN the 24th century imo.

They could pop up in a Captain Seven series or the Picard movie. Actually this works for a Young Picard movie as well . Old Picard decides to make the Sheliak wait again and then he is like "Hey gang. While we wait you want me to tell you about a adventure I had aboard the Stargazer" The screen fades away to some of the at old school flashback music and presto we now see young LT Picard in a bar smoking a cigar playing poker with a Romulan, Ferengi with a Scar on his face and a Nausisican, because of course we know Picard was more of a wildcard in hi youth.
