so Person-A does not like what they read on Source A by Person-B.
Person-A then takes this shit without offering context to Source B and calls for consequences

while complaining about people starting fires, or something.

This is what I’m talking about. Not only this but public perception and pr. This is also from personal experience from an ex Twitter user.

What do you mean, "this is what I'm talking about"? Do you mean that Gina Carano should have been censored before making her antisemitic remarks?

Again, what Star Trek actor's posts so offended you that you are calling for prior censorship?

no I mean that actions have consequences. She got axed from her employer because of remarks she made on X formerly Twitter.

There are many celebrities who use their status as a soapbox to speak their minds. That does not stop with Star Trek stars. We can choose to be bothered by what they say if we don't like the message or we can choose to ignore them. I typically choose the later.

Thanks for the response. The main issue at least for me is how the algorithm works that amplifies these views. While I don’t intentionally follow these accounts it’s made worse when some trek celebrities go that route and I have to change my feed to fix it. Look at Sean Ferrick for example. He recently posted his take on the current middle east conflict which his first post was so so, but then his reply was more outrage gotcha style.
Even though your primary interest is in the shows and in the characters they portray, I think you have to remember that the actors are real people, and one thing about real people is that tend to have opinions about stuff. If the social media accounts in question were for their Star Trek characters only, then yeah, expressing a personal opinion could be considered out of line.

But these accounts are usually their own personal accounts, for posting whatever they see fit. Is it possible that their employer might object to an overtly political statement by one of their actors? Sure, but that's a matter to be settled between them.

If you don't want to be exposed to the personal opinions of the actor, the easy solution would be to block or mute their account. It may not always be a foolproof solution, but -- unless their employer has forced them to sign an agreement never to publicly break character as a condition of their employment -- it's probably the best you'll be able to do.

I also go with the latter. If they don’t live in my house or are friends, I largely don’t care what they say. Their value to me is as performers.

Yeah but then job opportunities and political limitations for x reasons. Yeah as a consumer we can choose to do whatever but my problem is not the actors themselves but mainly the people who host giant Trek channels on places like Youtube who’s audience are mostly there for the Trek stuff.
So, dare I say, don't follow them. People are welcome to their opinions, and there is no need to call for censorship because of disagreement over politics. I mean, there are a lot of things around social media I disagree with, especially political, but also religious, and also Star Trek and the nonsensical way newer Trek gets portrayed at times by reviewers. I don't call for them to stop posting. I simply don't reward their behavior with my views.

I use to be.

I now just ignore it because it has no impact on my life.

I’m still curious as to what started this garbage fire?
Nothing personal. It’s mainly that on places like Twitter it’s become more of an echo chamber for the poster.

Okay, so..

Any actor or actress ( Trek Included) can say whatever they want ( at least in the US of A) Free speech and all.
Be it from Left or Right or 8 legged space aliens.

Now, that doesn't make them immune from consequences, as many have said, if you work for a company, and said company doesn't like what you said or done, on your private time/account, they can still suspend, Fire etc. you. Right of association, they can choose to get rid of you, doesn't have to be criminal, or even that incendiary a comment.

Now there are people in a company, and probably there agents that would tell a verbose person to knock that crap off if they want to keep there job. Some just ignore said advice, and are fired.

But all WE can do as a watcher or fan is Ignore them, don't look at there posts Etc. If you really feel like they stepped over a line you can message the company to fire them or suspend them Etc. But they may do Nothing.

Thats it..

Yup.

Changing a person's mind doesn't happen on social media, especially around politics. It starts with a personal relationship, building connections and engaging in dialogue around the topics.

Oh Echo Chambers?
There's plenty of those on social media, and I dare say, it is ENCOURAGED and MADE to be that way by the App..

How you say?
Say your Left wing, you choose who you follow, what news feeds, etc. and if X comes up with a suggestion of a person or feed, if they don't align with your bias, you say no. So now YOU are in a self made echo chamber that only gets information from people and organizations from your political bias.

That’s one of the reasons I left Twitter because it’s too pain enduing and it is too much on my mental health.

If it makes you feel any better, the YouTube channels of the most obnoxious people on Twitter are seeing a precipitous drop in their view counts...

Gina Carano wise, there's potentially a case to be made for selective prosecution vis a vis what apparently Pedro Pascal posted in the same timeframe, but I don't know the details on that one.

This place can be pretty polarizing too. Maybe try reaching out to real life friends? Or are there acquaintances you haven't talked with in a while? Sometimes just leaving a comment on an Instagram story can get a conversation going with someone you haven't talked with in years.

Thanks and it does help :) Yeah on the Disney front something shady is happening but heh I can’t do much about it.
