what's your local weather?

We've been only been in the 50s the last week or so, and the morning have been cooling off again. It got down to 35º early this morning, but got up to 59º by the the time I went out on my bike ride a little after 4:00PM. We're supposed to be a little warmer tonight and get some rain tomorrow morning.

First bad weather of the year this past weekend. Usually hits in November. Just snow, no ice, no storms. Still a lot of cars in the ditch.

Got my new snowblower out but I couldn't afford a good one. Got the cheapest two stage available. The shoes on it were apparently at the min height and I got about fifteen feet before all the gravel it sucked up clogged the auger. Couldn't get it running again. Hope nothing broke. I'm going to try and adjust the shoes today and get any gravel left out and see if it will get running again. This snow is supposed to melt Wed but then come down again this coming weekend.

Apparently we got 25 hours of clear skies for the month of December, including at night. Normally we get 125. It is so grey out all the time. SAD really kicking in for people. Over the holidays everyone talked about how it did not feel like Christmas this year.

Yeah I'm south of them so miss the mid week storm, I'm only supposed to get like 6 cm tomorrow and then Wed is 5+ and raining.

Winter is finally here. 3 more months of this and maybe with El Nino spring will come early.

I remember the long range forecast saying it would dump winter, then thaw for a week, then dump winter for a week, then thaw for a week....

About 30 F and mostly clear for now, but the 24-hour forecast has us potentially getting upwards of 4 inches of snow tomorrow. We'll see. They called for anywhere from 1.25" to 5" this past weekend and my immediate area didn't see one solitary flake of precipitation, just cold rain.

Still couldn't get my snowblower running. Think it was the belt maybe came off when I started it the first time. Next thing to look at. Then call warranty to try and get a service appointment covered, but with the snow this weekend I think I'd be out of luck having it repaired before the storm.

It won't run or the auger won't turn?

As for local weather, already got over an inch of snow, and preparing for a lot more starting this afternoon. My blower will be getting a full workout.

It's two stage. Engine for the wheels runs, but when I press down on the clamp the auger squeels. If I press down all the way it the engine cuts out entirely. I can't tell if the auger is spinning or not as I'm alone. Next time I get out to test I'm bringing my camera to record to find out.

From my experience (and this is limited) it sounds like the auger or the interior chute rotator is jammed. Mine will squeal like that if I caught a work (a hazard of my place) and I have to loosen it out of their. The engine cuts out to protect itself. So, what I have had to do, including yesterday, it check both the auger and chute rotator for any gravel chunks stuck between the moving parts and the body.

All with the engine off, obviously.

Yeah that was my first thought. I went through and cleared it all out. That video was after I cleaned it all.

Still sounds like something is jammed in there, somewhere. There are also blots that move the auger that are designed to break before the auger does so you can check those as well. Called shear bolts in this diagram. But, the sound makes me think the chute rotator piece that flings the snow from the auger out of the chute. That's where I have heard that sound before.

It was our coldest night/early morning so far this winter, it got down to 33º this morning. It's later in the afternoon now and it's made it up to 52º. According to the Weather Channel's daily forecast, we're supposed to be back up to 72º in a couple weeks, but that's awfully far off, so I don't know if that'll actually happen.

Heh,

32 is our high.
