The "opening up space" thing is a fallacy. Mid budget content moved to streaming and nothing guarantees some "other movie" would even be good

Exactly. Tickets are expensive and I'd rather stay home if the big screen doesn't offer much advantage to a basic drama or comedy. I don't even see most blockbusters because of the prices tbh

I was just using that statement to speculate that maybe there was a positive reason some of the posters here are doing cartwheels over the possible demise and openly wishing to see the end of the MCU. Because the other possibilities are not really flattering.

Yeah, "just end it all" isn't a solution when material is decidedly mediocre.

But its usually the most rational (and fiscally responsible) use of resources / stop cutting down the bridge you're standing on. Nearly every film series of note throughout movie history was brought to an end, or took a break for whatever reasons: when the interest in and diminishing returns of Universal's original horror movies (1931 - 1945) were undeniable, the studio closed the door on that series (permanently) and (once becoming Universal International) turned collective eyes toward the atomic threat and/or horror/pseudo-science as the new trend to exploit in the following decade.

Appropriately enough, in comics, it was Marvel's own, original Captain Marvel title (1968) that was cancelled in 1970 due to low sales, but the character and entire direction of the book had to be revamped before the title was revived in 1972. Comic books have played host to endless titles cancelled due to mediocre output and sales (i.e., the paramount concern of reader disinterest), with many never getting a second life, very likely because it did not deserve one, but when they do return, they're almost always a new "animal" completely shedding the skin of the old version.

Perhaps the direction of a good number of the MCU's theatrical and streaming content of late warrants a consideration of that time-worn action.

If we'd done that with Trek nothing would have been made past 2002 or very little

....now that you mention it...

The MCU isn't like universal horror movies. It's an ever expanding universe. And one of the constant whining complaints is "too many unfamiliar characters" as if we should keep the same old ones forever

And no, Star trek shouldn't have ended after 2002 either.

Universal pretty much created the ever-expanding "cinematic universe"; it started with solo films, then moved to crossover movies with a few exceptions (namely, the Mummy and Invisible Man films). in this regard, its an apt comparison.

While I have no doubt that the MCU as it stands right now will eventually end, I really don't think we've reached that point. A ton of the blockbusters of the last few years have struggled, but I don't see people saying that Disney should stop releasing movies because Wish or The Little Mermaid disappointed. The only time I'd really be concerned about the stability of the MCU is when more of the other big blockbusters are back to making record profits, but the MCU movies are completely bombing, and as far as I know that isn't happening.
Now? Feige could have considered this before "Civil War" was shot. But he didn't. Hurt also returned for Infinity War", "Endgame" and "Black Widow".

Majors hasn't been found guilty yet. Despite that, you want Marvel to get rid of him now? Yet, it was okay to keep Hurt around?
I've never heard about Hurt before, but I looked him up on Wikipedia, and yikes, I had no idea he was like that.
I think the biggest difference is it sounds like this was all in the past, and it's a lot easier to overlook stuff that happened in the past, than it is the stuff that's happening right now. I'm not sure if any charges were filed against, but Majors is on trial right now, so that makes it kind of hard to overlook.

Yes Majors' trial is a new thing vs Hurt but tbh they could've dropped Hurt earlier. Maybe they learned their lesson. Idk

Ikr!! And Echo seems to fairly different in tone too. I find it all more interesting than the relative basicness of phase 1 & 2, which itself was better than the blandness of the 2000s

The door's right over there; no one will stop you. Come back anytime! ;)

I don't see why I should bother resume watching these movies "anytime". Do you always say this to people whose opinions you don't share? I didn't realize we were expected to agree on everything.

As for the WB suits not sharing my opinion on most of Gunn's films . . . pity.
