RTD is probably a bigger fan of Classic Who than anyone.

If someone makes an episode of Doctor Who (or Star Trek or anything else) that I don't like, it's because that person thinks they're above the show, they hate it, they want to destroy it, and they want to hurt me personally. They are my enemy and they must be fought, and I will not be reasonable or calm about it. You expect me to shrug my shoulders and say, well, that was kinda meh, I hope next week's will be better? You know nothing of fandom.

The above was a work of fiction. Any resemblance to posters living or dead is purely coincidental. Have a nice day.

Wilfred!... damn.. that was emotional for me.. some people, even actors passings hit harder.. Rip good sir.

Much like Donna I can't remember what happened in the Flux despite watching it, so that bit felt very real.
Ditto. Watched it.. had to go look it up.. :ouch:

As for Newton..
Don't race change a white person.. just show a non white historical figure.. there are plenty of them. And Dr Who is the prime show to show more non white or even non UK historical figures.. Read a book writers!

4.83 million overnights which is a crazily small drop (5%) for an episode that had a fraction of the publicity that last week's had.

I’m in the camp that says a highly enjoyable episode in its own right, but that’s also beginning to itch for something a little more anniversarial, if I can put it that way. It was nice to see elements of the Whittaker-Chibnall era acknowledged and also, less explicitly, parts of the Moffat era, but I’m still hoping for a little more to recognise the 60th anniversary.

Anyway, reviewing the episode for what it was, rather than what it wasn’t, Tennant and Tate were brilliant in each of their roles, the Disney budget has never been more obvious than in this episode (which I wasn’t expecting from a mostly interior episode) and for a split second I actually thought they might go through with blowing up the real Donna.

And of course it was great to see Wilf/Bernard again, I’m glad they were able to use the footage they shot in an actual episode rather than just as a bonus scene or the like.

As for next week - anyone else already dreading the thought of DT regenerating again?

I remember I was pretty apprehensive about the 10th Doctor regenerating, right up to "I don't want to go". But then Matt Smith appeared, and you realized the Doctor was still there, he was ok, and the show would be ok too. Same thing with Gatwa I suspect.
Yeah, I’ve always thought Matt owned the role from the first second. Had me from almost in tears to laughter with a widening of the eye and a grab of the chin. I’ve no doubt Ncuti will also hit the ground running and win us over. But still not looking forward to the Doctor losing that face after only three episodes, never mind three seasons!

It was a good creepy episode - Loved the edge of the known universe where nothing but also something exists - like the Universe is in a paradox of it's own. The only problem I have is both episodes had a typical episode of the week feel to them (with bigger budgets). 60th anniversary and it's all a bit low key = maybe episode 3 will change that but I was just hoping for a bit more.

I was hoping these 60th would bring back Smith and Capaldi (I know he said in past that he's done but apart from Chris 2 minute Eccleston - that's never really true is it.)

I watched it just now (because i’ve been busy with school stuff) and honestly the “my arms are too long” line gave me the save vibes as “are you my mummy?” and “hey, who turned out the lights”. Felt very reminiscent, definitely very RTD.

I was tearing up when he picked the wrong Donna (especially because some dumb tumblr post i made months ago about how Donna better not die started getting notes again before I had a chance to watch the episode) and then cried when I saw Wilf!

I loved it, was slightly creeped out which doesn’t happen often with Dr Who (except when I went to a Dr Who experience and was stuck in a room with weeping angels and the lights turned off and on and the angels moved), but I really wanna see the toymaker I don’t know I don’t want it to be rushed in the last episode, you know?

I took it as a joke about the Mandela effect. If Donna and the Doctor can change history and gravity to mavity, RTD was showing he can change the ethnicity of Isaac Newton.

It might, though, and that's the central issue with RTD's decision via a vis Tennant.
I mean, Tennant was probably coming back regardless. We know BBC mandated he be brought back for the 50th anniversary. It stands to reason they probably mandated the same for the 60th. The only difference is RTD chose to bring Tennant back as a new incarnation, likely a reflection of the fact RTD has spoken in the past of his dislike of multi-Doctor stories.

But then, this has been explained to you before.
The Metacrisis Tenth Doctor was still the Tenth Doctor, so, no, there's not a 'technically' here.

David Tennant's Doctor Who filmography reads 'Tenth Doctor (2005-2010)' and 'Fourteenth Doctor (2023)', not 'Tenth Doctor (2005-2010), 'Metacrisis Tenth Doctor (2009)', and 'Fourteenth Doctor (2023)'.
"Technically three incarnations" likely refers to the fact that Tennant was technically the Eleventh Doctor from Journey's End through to TEOT.

But then, this has been explained to you before.

Honestly, the mavity joke (which I love) did feel like RTD taking a page out of Rick & Morty, really, which I certainly don't mind. I love it, but it's a tad odd anyway.

It’s a paradox. If Donna created the change by making her joke and Newton mishearing it, and it’s rippled down her timestream enough that she uses the term ‘mavity’ then she can’t make the joke to be misheard in the first place, as she would actually say mavity. I mean, as threading a word in to mess up the universe goes, or to foreshadow someone (The Doctor) having to hit a big undo button at some point goes…
Perhaps it's self correcting? If the "real" word is now "mavity." Then when she goes back and see's Newton, she'll say "gravity" as the joke instead! Problem solved! :guffaw:

Yup, all of that makes sense.

As for the unintended consequences, it's "The Giggle" that I have unusual expectations because of the involvement of The Celestial Toymaker, combined with it being the concluding episode of the 60th anniversary specials. But I certainly saw other people go in this direction (as indicated by the beginning of this thread).

Good episode. I think it could have been shorter and worked better for it. I can't believe David will be finished next week. I dunno how I feel about how they handled his return. It's fantastic that he is back but I expected the 3 specials to be a little more connected and serve as a larger story... This episode could have easily been a series 4 episode.

The specials so far feel like a condensed version of RTD's typical seasons - your semi-quirky opener introducing/reintroducing the companion and their family, the mid-point creepy episode that's mostly character work, and then the epic finale against old foes and regenerations.
