Anyone know how to engage/find other Star Trek fans?

(apologies if the formatting on this post is bad i’ve never used this website and the layout is rather old)
Does anyone know how to find other Star Trek fans irl, i’m a young fan (mid to older Gen Z) and I have no one to geek out about Star Trek with. I’ve scoured social media (Insta, TikTok, Tumblr etc) and there’s barely anything (I don’t use Twitter and Reddit is good but quite antisocial). The only irl comic shops or anything of the like are 45 minutes away (i’m from the UK so Star Trek isn’t as popular here anyway). :/
Also quite annoyed because I feel like anyone that is a Star Trek or sci-fi/space opera fan in general wouldn’t talk to me about it because they assume I wouldn’t be into it. I told a guy in my physics class that I like Star Trek, and other nerdy ish fandoms and that I like going to comic-con and he was shocked saying he’d never expect it like i was too girly/basic or some shit etc etc and I wish I looked more like a fan (idk how that’s even possible but whatever) because maybe I’d be able to find another.
Long winded way of saying any way to find Star Trek fans irl or online please tell me because I am in NEED of geeking out over this show (preferably a lower age range because a lot of fans are older and while that’s great and I love discussions with older fans sometimes I also want to be silly and unserious in my geeking out over this franchise (specifically TOS and the movies))?
Oh also if anyone has any book recs please share (the audiobooks on spotify are not enough) or if you are willing to explain how to use the website

Am I crazy, or did Annie McCoy just imply that we're all old and ugly? ;)

(Please do note that winking smiley, I am not making a serious accusation. This disclaimer might seem unnecessary, but you'd be surprised.)

oh god the needing for a disclaimer is gonna scare me about this website
Lighthearted but as in adults aren’t gonna wanna talk with older teens about trek (a lot have it on a DNI list in their bio) and finding fans my age is a STRUGGLE those that do know people that watch it it’s always their dad

Man i’m 16 I don’t have the legal rights or resources-
That being said best move you could’ve made marrying her

Welcome to the board.

I've been here a while ... actually, um ... joined up 8 years before you were born. Bloody 'ell.

I was a couple of years older than you when I first found the place - it was all shiny and new back then. I'd discovered Trek at the age you are now - faced the same predicament as you with no outlet IRL either.

No need to be shy about being silly or going gaga over what you're passionate about. Just jump in and see how you go. If you want to talk Trek, this is the place. There's a wide range of age groups here; people are judged on what they post, not their age. :)

This makes me feel sooo young which is weird because at the moment i feel so old when i keep getting told i’m basically an adult and am applying to uni in under a year  so actually thanks for that

Agreed but also sometimes my silly is literally being a teenage girl making silly comments comments about characters (in a perceived shallow way when it’s just meant to be fun) i like and idk if there are places like that for star trek where there are for other shows (and if you know any places/forums for that please tell me)
Also kinda scared if i say opinions and they end up being controversial and adults end up arguing with me or something (Example, I thought the hating Wesley Crusher thing was a joke because he’s just a kid and he’s TRYING despite hide mistakes and he has crushing (pun definitely intended) expectations and is simultaneously patronised and then I found out a lot of people do actually hate him and they got mad at me which i don’t want)

Also Thank you smmm for the lovely welcome

Do what i do, find a woman who likes Star Trek and marry her.
Crap..it's too late for me!

My wife likes Lord of the Rings!

Don't be scared. Many of my opinions are controversial and I like Wesley and was a teen when I discovered that Wesley hatred was a thing. People are unimaginably cruel to fictional characters they don't like.

Lmao your wife has good taste

Literally people are so horrible to fictional characters and their actors (yes that is targeted to young anakin hate)

Hello! Interesting question. My main interests are travel, international politics, film/tv, and Star Trek. I've met over a hundred people in real life interested in travel. Dozens and dozens into international politics. Dozens into film/tv. But into Star Trek in particular? Never.

Probably the best place to meet genre fans in person would be a convention or other kind of event. Star Trek actually has a pretty good fanbase in the UK, enough to support UK publishers putting out Star Trek books and magazines. HMV still stocks Star Trek on disc in their stores.

Online wise outside Twitter/Tumblr/Reddit? Maybe you could try a more targeted Facebook group?

Are you interested in behind the scenes books? Novels? Which series?

There's a major major difference in interacting with people online you've never met in person versus people you've met in real life, however briefly. Hyperbole and sarcasm are hard to translate. There are potential language barriers. People take things too seriously and want the last word. Just try and use grins and emojis.
I don’t like the format of facebook so not for me lol

I’ve been to a few conventions but never in Star Trek cosplay so maybe that’s the next step.

I like behind the scenes and the novels (i’ve only read a couple) but anything with TOS characters (and TNG, but i want to finish that before watching any of the other older shows)

They are, largely because there is no apparent consequence to hating on them. It's absurd, but humans have that capacity for cruelty, especially when there are no social consequences. One behavior proves that.

But, I still like Wesley and First Duty and the Game are my favorite TNG episodes.

There's a section of the BBS called "Trek Literature". You could ask for novel recommendations there. Maybe there are episodes you really liked that have novel sequels, or novels that focus on a minor character you liked.

You might also consider making a "Watching ____ for the first time" thread in a series sub forum. Always interesting to see a series again through fresh eyes.
