Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

So is the BBC making the term "Whoniverse" an official thing?

It's on the wall of Bad Wolf studios

What about Disney?
Should we be worried about them?

No, because they're only marginally helping to finance the production of the show going forward, and only via licensing fees.

Doctor Who remains a BBC property, albeit one that is now being produced entirely by a third-party production house (Bad Wolf Studios).

There had been an assumption that RTD's return as Showrunner, the outsourcing of production, and the increased budget resulting from the Disney + licensing agreement was going to lead to another expansion of the franchise (hence rumors of a UNIT series and this ever-recurring Paul McGann rumor), but RTD just shut down any spinoff talk on the record and in print.

^^I would assume so seeing as it seems to have no issues with dimensions when it comes to size and shape.....and think of the easy to make merch they could sell of a 2d tardis for such a sequal, we could see dr who back on cereal boxes, cut out your own 2d tardis and aliens, i can see the advert now...."Weetabix, a 2d price with a 3d taste"........i know, it's meaningless. lol

OMG the possibilities are endless.... I mean they did this in The Orville so why not?

So as per DWM the mysterious "Wild Blue Yonder" only has three guest stars in it. The character names are Fenslaw, Collis and Brate but the actors names are all given as [REDACTED].

So here's my crazy thought; what it Smith, Capaldi and, I'd love to say Eccleston but realistically Whitaker are appearing but not as the Doctor?

The two touchstones mentioned by the director are "Alien" and "The Thing". Well it's set on a spaceship so that's the former covered, so the latter could suggest some shape changing shenanigans.

What demands have they made?
None. They’ve passed notes on edits and they’ll have needed to make Standards and Practices reviews in order to ensure they’re happy to carry the show world wide. The Venn diagram between those two things is significant.

RTD has stated in DWM that at least some of their notes have been creatively beneficial.

RTD apparently said "once you unravel Fenslaw, Collis, Brate, everything clicks into place", so they MAY be anagrams, or some other code.

Collis Brown mix => Peri Brown?! But it's Collis Browne, dammit!

RTD has already said - in print and on the record - that there is no active spin-off development currently happening, which ought to be enough to squash The Mirror's claim outright.
Actually, he claims spin-offs are happening, but that "none are imminent."
We know UNIT is all but officially announced as happening, for instance.
He has categorically denied a UNIT series is happening, however.

I'm surprised by the lack of publicity it's been getting but just a reminder that there is a brand new minisode during "Children In Need" next Friday which will star David Tennant (obviously) and
John Simm. Allegedly.

While the BBC for some reason can't lie or deny, Russell, like the Doctor and everyone on House, MD, do lie.

RTD lies to protect plot developments; I don’t know that he’s ever lied about the state of production plans.

Regardless, it doesn’t seem terribly likely, in the midst of a massive contraction in the streaming TV industry, that Disney would plow ahead with development of spin-offs before a single episode of Doctor Who has even aired on their service.

Disney are selling off completed series that they actually own in order to make some money. There is no open chequebook for more Doctor Who related material from them. And if it doesn't do well I wouldn't be shocked if they try to get out of their contract.

Disney is only marginally helping to finance the production of new Doctor Who content; they have little to no impact on whether or not said content happens, either now or in the future.

Licensing the program for inclusion on Disney+ also has little to no financial impact on them, giving them little to no stakes on that front.

Re: RTD, he has absolutely no reason to lie about the status of anything having to do with the production aspect of Doctor Who, especially not in print and on the record.
