Creative Writing, Poetry, Arts & Crafts, and Other Creations Thread

Never too old or busy to learn!!! :techman:
Research is part of writing. There's a whole subforum over at the NaNoWriMo site where people can ask and answer research questions. A few months ago I got into a discussion about the price of chickens in medieval times, and it turns out that they were much more valuable then than I'd have thought.

I know that facts like that will not stop the war in The Ukraine, or order the chaos of our current US political and social dilemmas, but I like knowing things like that, and somehow believe that they matter!

Well, they mattered to the people of 600+ years ago. Writing has done a lot to save my sanity over the past several years. I'm part of the at-risk group for covid, so I basically spent 3 years in my apartment except for medical appointments and essential banking. I've been working on my stories every single day and kick it up into overtime during the NaNoWriMo months (April, July, and November).

In the meantime, there are newcomers to NaNo on the forums there, and it's sad to see how many people ask if it's okay to write fanfiction, like it's something to be ashamed of (some folks have friends and family who tell them it's stupid and childish).

I tell them it's not stupid, it's not childish, and there are plenty of professional authors who got their start writing fanfiction, learning how to write. Eventually they felt ready to create their own original works and found success. But regardless of whether the goal is to turn pro or just write stories, I believe that an essential part of it is that people have fun while they're doing it.

I figured I might as well drop my own two cents here, for what it’s worth. I have a whole collection of such drivel. Wrote this for a contest, and it turned out okay, I guess.

“Smokey”

A little sauce, a little zest
into the meat with which I wrest
the tastes that sizzle upon your lips
as you slowly sup and sip.

Smokey air of Grade-A beef
combined with lettuce--a single leaf,
tomato on top all piled with cheese,
ketchup, mustard and pickles, please.

So step on up, it's a lively affair
as sunlight in gold pierces the air--
cheeseburgers and corn right on the cob
salt and butter in piles and gobs.

Savor the flavor of Angus' best
in honey dijon all sweetly dressed
between some buns with sesame seeds
to sate your summer-time barbecue needs.

Just two and a half weeks to this year's major NaNoWriMo event. If only I could type as fast as the stories are already writing themselves in my head...

I love surreal art.

The following painting resonates with this troubled Halloween season as a century ago…

Especially the bushes to the left the woman gazes at…as others look to the horizon.

Count the faces…

This would be a perfect cover for DETAILS:

I hope this OK to post in this thread, but just for a fun a few days ago I used the new Microsoft Edge AI image generator to make a cover for my story. It's not perfect, the eagle and the two cowboys in background were random things it added on it's own, and I imagined the guy's sword to be bigger and more impressive, but out of several dozen attempts, this was the best.

That's an awfully big horse for that black rider on the left. ;)
I think as you're neither a Hollywood studio nor a big publishing house you can be excused for using AI.

That's funny, I didn't notice it either. Some of the things I got from it were pretty weird at times.

Looking closer, the rider's leg is actually proportional to the horse, so it's not that the horse is too big but the rider has a tiny upper body.

Btw, @Christmas Crinkles , you can just type '@' and 'JD', then leave a space, the software works it out. Like this, @JD .
