The Most Disliked Episode of DS9, 2023 Edition - Season 6...

Saving "HIS WAY" next.

Vic Fontaine was a wonderful addition to the recurring cast. And Odo melts his glacier and finally gets with Kira.

It makes sense to have a character and music like here in DS9's war arc. WWII was definitely an inspiration for some of the Dominion War, and that kind of music is iften paired with WWII movies, shows, etc.

Also, it was a nice setting away from the War on occasion. DS9, more than any other show, knew how to balance its dark stories with light-hearted and comedic episodes. It's needed, particularly in a war setting... otherwise, it would be mentally exhausting for the audience.

"A TIME TO STAND"
"SONS AND DAUGHTERS"
"FAVOR THE BOLD"
"RESURRECTION"
"STATISTICAL PROBABILITIES"
"HONOR AMONG THIEVES"
"CHANGE OF HEART"
"WRONGS DARKER THAN DEATH
OR NIGHT"
"THE RECKONING"
"PROFIT AND LACE"
"TEARS OF THE PROPHETS"

I like the music in His Way but it's 1964 and the music is definitely post-WW II. Some of the songs are from earlier but the style of performance is right for early 1960s.

I also really like the balance of Vic episodes with heavy war or other dark episodes. And it's kinda fun seeing Odo make it out of his shell.

I'll rescue "Wrongs Darker than Death or Night". I like seeing more of Kira and DS9's backstory, and Kira's character growth. She realized she couldn't kill her mother, even though she was a collaborator. Maybe even accepted that judging people was no longer her job.

Still Left:

"SONS AND DAUGHTERS"
"RESURRECTION"
"STATISTICAL PROBABILITIES"
"HONOR AMONG THIEVES"
"CHANGE OF HEART"
"THE RECKONING"
"PROFIT AND LACE"

True, but I was thinking more generally as big band, swinging, etc. You always hear bands like that played in WWII era movies and shows.

Some pretty lousy stuff remaining. I will save "The Reckoning", because it shows just how far Sisko has come in his journey from skeptic to believer. At this point he far surpasses the hypocritical Kai Winn. And that battle at the end is pretty spectacular.

"SONS AND DAUGHTERS"
"RESURRECTION"
"STATISTICAL PROBABILITIES"

This is just great directing here to tell the story, really showing how the music moves the story forward. SNW gets credit for the first Trek musical, but His Way worked the music into the narrative better.

I'll go with the distinctly average Sons and Daughters next.

I don't mind the stuff with Ziyal, Dukat and Kira, but I don't know what the writers were thinking with the character assassination of Alexander.

"RESURRECTION"
"STATISTICAL PROBABILITIES"
"PROFIT AND LACE"

And "PROFIT AND LACE" wins season 6!

As bad as this one is, "PROFIT AND LACE" actually wasn't the winner or runner up for the 2018 or 2021 games. I was somewhat surprised when I saw this on my list for all the games.

(For me personally, I feel "THE RECKONING" should have won. It's perhaps the only episode of DS9 that actively damages a lead character and betrays one of the core themes of the series... Sisko as a great dad. He was going to allow his son to probably be killed?! This goes against everything we have seen of the man over the previous six seasons, and I find it unforgiveable. When I'm cheering Winn for making a good decision over Sisko, something is clearly wrong. I used to put this as the 5th worst episode of DS9... it has steadily declined for me over the years, becoming one of the very rare episodes to actually do that, and it's now at a point where it's just about tied with "PROFIT AND LACE" as the very worst of DS9. Maybe one day, it will be these two duking it out for season 6 winner. Okay, this has gone on for longer than it should have. My apologies, and moving on.)

This was exciting. I will start season 7 shortly. Hope to see everyone there!

Thank you all for playing.

And "PROFIT AND LACE" wins season 6

And boy does it deserve it. If I had to pick a worst Trek objectively, that pile of refuse would be a strong candidate.

I'm aware that it's controversial in that regard... I actually wonder if it was intended as an allegory of the Biblical account of Abraham and Isaac. The parallels are definitely there.

If it helps, the Prophets knew from the beginning that Jake would not be harmed. They're temporally omnipresent, after all.

I know the parallel of the Abraham story is there, and it just reinforces why I hate the episode, and religion in general. Willing to sacrifice your own son for some being that may or not exist is just horrific. And in "THE RECKONING", it's clear that the Prophet was fighting to kill... look at the blood coming out of her nose and he was in even worse shape. And Ben just watches... that goes against EVERYTHING we have seen of the man up to that point.

And while the Prophets have no sense of time, it's clear that the Prophet inhabiting Kira was not happy that the battle was interrupted. We don't know if the Prophets knew the outcome or not because they never indicated that. So no, it doesn't help. (Thanks for trying, though.)

No worries. Crazy as it may sound in this contentious day and age, I am fine with agreeing to disagree.

Regardless, Profit and Lace had no redeeming features that I could detect, so it's a worthy "winner".

Agreeing to disagree... totally fine with that. It should be practiced more often by people, honestly.

(I'm with you about "PROFIT AND LACE" not having any redeeming features, though my wife actually doesn't find it as bad as I do.)

I understand the goal of the overall arc that began with "Rules of Acquisition" and concluded with "The Dogs of War". I didn't see it as entirely necessary, there was no reason in my mind why the Ferengi couldn't remain the "greedy, misogynistic, untrustable little trolls"... but the powers that be wanted to change. I can accept that. But... they just did it SO BADLY!
