VERY SHORT TREKS...

Is it canonical now that Caitians wear bras?
She might have just found one of Kirk's mansieres.

I wonder the the musical number was something of an homage to the "Archie" cartoon which Filmation also produced. Archie and his high school friends were depicted as playing in a band called, without much surprise, "The Archies".

^^this

My first thought was "Homage to Way to Eden of all things?" But the episode is tactfully written and has no qualms poking some lighthearted and innocent fun at itself and the time in which it was made. The song itself just feels natural to the piece and it was something of an unexpected bit of fun surprise. The Archies cartoon style, made by the same Filmation folks, of course, is a perfect fit. I wouldn't think too much into it as well, but - if anything - prodigy needed to be there, even if briefly. (and PRD is not my favorite incarnation of the show, but these very shorts encapsulate the history of the show so PRD would be a perfect fit for this finale as well. If I recall, they were in the previous one as well. Either which way, LD came first and TAS did pave the way for future animated shows and LD took things to the next level, and the original is quite good as well.)

That was a very cute finale. I love that they acknowledged that they're all cartoons. Who did Scotty's voice? Was it James Doohan's son, who played the role in the Continues fan films and Star trek Online? Because it was pretty spot-on.

TAS isn't as well but that doesn't mean things from it can't be incorporated into canon. If we ever get a live action Caitian again I guess we will need to have them show us. Or maybe someone can recall if the one Kirk fought in Trek 5 had one.

TAS isn't as well...

It was only out of canon from the official memo of January 1989 (Filmation being sold off and TAS rights were in flux, plus Richard Arnold hated TAS) until Gene Roddenberry's death in September 1991.

Then the Official Star Trek site of the day was able to upload encyclopedic entries to their online material, which they did, and Jeri Taylor even added a TAS reference to her novelization of "Unification". TAS was back!

Except the trailer isn't canon.
