A theoretical Galileo RV

The design in the blog post would have made more sense for a small shuttle craft than the Galileo, which was a room with chairs and a small utility room in back.

They didn't have the budget show it, but I imagine the Galileo was like this, but with a bed in back converting into seats and the seats in front converting into makeshift beds. Even if it was primarily designed for short trips, it seems like it needed facilities for eating, sleeping, and a bathroom in case the missions went long as in the case of The Galileo Seven.

In the teaser to "Metamorphosis," in the shuttlecraft, Kirk tells Nancy "We'll be there in four hours." And that was before they got shanghaied. So yeah.

The porta potty and microwave were in the back, but they got thrown out for weight reduction in The Galileo Seven. ;)

Exactly what I've always imagined as well. The rear room actually appeared to be a decent size on screen; that may have been a filming trick, or the set may not have corresponded to the in-universe design in that regard. (I'm aware of the scale differential between the interior set and the mockup.)
