What's your unpopular opinions on SNW?

Mine is (and at the risk of getting flayed) I want more TOS characters. Yes that includes Kirk, even though I think he's miscast. Maybe there can be a Sam centered ep that can include him. I'd love to see McCoy maybe at the end of season 3. I want to know more of the backgrounds of the legacy characters.

My other is I like other characters getting the time to shine and Pike not having to be center stage. It doesn't feel to me like Pike is missing, just that others are getting to be the focus.

Legacy characters are a mixed bag. When handled well, they cast new light on TOS episodes. But, the more they appear the more it feels less interesting and more there for the sake of being there. Kirk is feeling more and more tacked on.

- A Trek musical might not be the best thing ever

- This is Pike’s show, not Kirk’s; it’s not fair to Pike for Kirk to constantly turn up and push Pike out; and if they want so much Kirk he should get his own damn show already

- The Illyrians are, except for Una, arrogant assholes who think they’re the best thing ever just because they’re genetically engineered and think they should just waltz right into the Federation despite the law, which is not their place to question (either you abide by Federation law or you GTFO)

- I mean, seriously. Deliberately engineering themselves to breathe toxic air just to keep Federation visitors away? Talk about ego.

- Can’t really see Khan having kids although I admit I like La’an very much

- Canon is actually a GOOD thing, and SNW has done a remarkable job keeping to it

- Moving the Eugenics Wars is a ready-made excuse as to why things look more advanced than TOS

- They should have kept the DSC version of the bridge. Bring back the corridor!

I would like to see more of the Farragut/Kirk next season. They could justify it any way they like; have the Enterprise form the equivalent of a carrier battlegroup near Gorn space etc, but I'd like to see both ships exploring the frontier together for a bit. The caveat to this being that the season would have to be a little longer because the Enterprise/SNW crew should remain the centre of attention and ongoing plotlines.

I want a flashback to Nhan’s time on the Enterprise. Presumably she was La’an’s predecessor as security chief.

Oh I'd have no problem with Starfleet marines at all. Between the Klingon War, and the Gorn threat, they'd make sense as a distinct (and possibly temporary?) subset of the Enterprise crew, just like you have civilian researchers like Chapel, and mission specialists there too. It's 'horses for courses', as they say. But, like the MACOs of Enterprise, I'd like their roles quite narrowly defined so that they're supporting the exploratory roles that the Enterprise conducts.

My unpopular opinions are completely opposite from y'all's.....

Having 6 decades of canon is a fun exercise not a problem. There's no need to ignore Trek history just to tell a good story for that particular hour. Just find a creative workaround or mess with people's assumptions like they've already been doing. New and creative angles that might never have been thought of can come from having limitations.

Just curious, how far do you take it? The death of a legacy character, not Sam Kirk? Or a change of events such as Una obtaining the captaincy after Pike instead of Kirk? I think Paramount would reject that one.

You can't kill off Spock or introduce the Enterprise-A, but could you make Una captain for a bit? There's a lot of wiggle room, so who knows.

That's the thing, a lot is possible even with 60 years of canon.

But I don't understand why they cannot work within previous continuity. Having T'Pring show up for example. That did not have to happen. She's not even an interesting character. It goes against her appearance in TOS no matter how people try to justify it. Enterprise did a better job. I remember the outrage over the ferengi showing up.....lol.....now it's ok for Spock to be in a love triangle with Chapel and Tpring????.....I don't get it....lol
