DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

I'm not defending Aquaman except in terms of pure mathematics. Saying that Barbie could earn the same as the five movies mentioned combined it would have to earn like $2B at the box office which is possible, it's off to a hell of a start, I just thought maybe it was underestimating the task at hand.

But that's math that only holds up if Aquaman 2 is actually a hit. The first movie getting a billion doesn't erase the many signs that the sequel is in for hard times.

ETA: On second thought I think there's a miscommunication here. I think its clear that post about Barbie is referring to the 5 current DCEU movies, even though it doesn't include the '2' after Aquaman. But it seems you've interpreted that post as the last 3 films plus BB and the original Aquaman.

You're right, and that makes more sense, I think I missed the context there.

Snyder confirms Gunn's DCU is kiddie MCU crap!!!! j/k I think that's a nice gesture as well

And between whats going on with the DCEU in general and the clearly massive falling out between WB and Wan (supposedly Wan walked off the set of AQ2 leaving Momoa to do his job for him), these are not even close to the best of circumstances.
I haven't heard about that, what happened?

I don't know if its ever been confirmed, but it was supposedly a part of all the behind the scenes drama that ultimately led to Wan being so pissed off at WB that he switched his entire production company's contract to Universal instead.

Wow....the story of the DC Film Universe just gets better and better.....So did Wan get mad before or after the announcement of James Gunn?

They seem to be aware that recasting certain parts would be an automatic downgrade.

It appears that they see the Flash movie as an excuse to keep some people and lose others going forward.

This is the Batman company, I don't think fear of recasting is something that is considered.
Especially assuming things will be a downgrade. But then, fans say this with almost every new casting of a familiar character, so here we go again.

Yeah, a few months ago, Gadot mentioned she was in talks about continuing her character.

Time to cue expected speculation about how this Wonder Woman movie:

...is a "last extension" of the cancelled DCEU.
...will only confuse matters if WW3 is a part of the DCU, since her established film origin and associations are in the DCEU, unless she will be a "new" WW.
...will be a stand-alone with no connection to either film continuity (e.g., Patt-Man and The Joker series).
...will be the testing ground to see if this "new" DCU will hang on to DCEU creations, and if so, WW could be the testing ground to bring another actor back, such as Ezra Miller as the Flash, since Gunn made the following statement a few months ago:

"We’re using some actors from the past. We’re not using other actors from the past, but...

I believe Gunn made that statement before The Flash's release, so the film's box-office disappointment could play a role in squashing any ideas about holding on to Miller.

Sounds to me she is just producing it. They may have had different plans a few months ago before Shazam and Flash were released.

Gunn has not announced anything regarding Gadot portraying Wonder Woman again, so I would take this with a grain of salt. It is entirely possible that Gadot would have a producer credit, a good way of enticing her fans to get on board with a new actress.

Both superhero film franchises--no matter the debated quality of various entries--succeeded in establishing their distinct identities and characters to the point where character and "camp" are as easily recognizable as sports teams (as Morpheus 02 referred to).

Sports team is a pretty good analogy. Can most people who aren't into the sports name some teams? Definitely. But pick some random player and ask a non-fan to tell you which team they're on and, well, good luck. Folks have some awareness that their are Marvel movies and also Those Other Superhero movies. (Not sure how many of them would be familiar with the term DC, though). But that's not the same as knowing clearly which characters belong to which.

Hell, does anyone remember how Matt Smith was talking about how he took on Morbius because Karen Gillan was telling him about how fun it is to work with Marvel Studios, apparently not realizing the Sony films are their own thing? And that's someone who *works* in the industry. Most people just don't pay attention to this stuff.
