So, it turned out the crossover-with-a-cartoon episode is only the second craziest premise this season - we will get a full on musical episode!
Now, YMMV obviously - but I have always wished for something crazy like this. I loved that TOS had a Halloween episode. I absolutely adore Stargate's 100. and 200. episode about the "Wormhole X-Treme" television show.
For me, Star Trek is not hard sci-fi. At the end of the day, it has to be emotionally honest & mature. But I dig it if it goes creatively off the rails sometime.
So, after getting the musical episode already out of the way in season 2, what other "special episodes" would you like to see?
Here are my picks, in no particular order:

Here are my picks, in no particular order:
- a Halloween episode (traditions!)
- a non-canon episode (set in present day, with the same actors in completely different roles, Anson Mount as a crime-noir detective solving a case, bonus points if it involves aliens)
- a "retro" episode: Using all and only the original sets, models, props & costumes from TOS, but otherwise 100% canon
- a fully animated episode
- a "short-stories" episode: 3 or 4 small, unconnected tiny plots
- a crossover episode with a completely different franchise (superhero, crime or historical show)
- A Dr. Who crossover
- A "what if?" episode
- an episode with none of the main characters appearing at all (e.g. a story involving Robert April chasing Harry Mudd)
What I DON'T want to see:
- a Christmas special - would normally be in favour, but Dr Who oversaturated that for me
- a sitcom episode with a laugh track - that's just nasty
