Do you think we will see Doctor Boyce in season 2?

In retrospect, it probably would've been more effective to just have DeForest Kelley in TNG without makeup as a sign of how good healthcare is in the 24th century. It wouldn't be that unbelievable anyway. Just look at 90 something Shatner!

And there's also Admiral Jameson. His age makeup appeared to be a bit too much for the age that he was actually supposed to be. So I'm guessing it took them awhile to work out just how old people are supposed to look.

Wish they would show Sarah April, the CMO during his tenior as captain.
Maybe show Admiral April, and his wife Sarah come for an inspection, or using the Enterprise as a Taxi to somewhere. Be nice to see a married admiral/ high rank to show it can be done, give Pike/Batel a good example.

That was the original plan, and Kelley even did screentests in preparation. Then someone worried that having Kelley walking around the studio would leak and everyone would know in advance about his cameo so they went with the elderly makeup as a means of "disguising" him.

That likely just would've confused casual fans who weren't aware that TNG was taking place approximately 80 years after TOS.

His cameo was done as a somewhat fun Easter Egg. They didn't want to make it too obvious. They knew that a long time fan who watched TOS many times would pick up pretty quickly who the Admiral in question was.

As of TNG, McCoy was still on active duty at age 137, and obviously Boyce isn't anywhere near that old. So I'm not really seeing why Boyce needs to retire or otherwise be done away with.

In Trek, 100 is the new 50!

You kill him not because he needs to be killed but because it would make for great drama. Since you got a current doctor already and you got McCoy as the big guest star in the future then now is the time to use him. Milk that drama and send him out in that great funeral torpedo out in space.

We know Mark Piper's Kirk's first CMO but that also doesn't mean M'Benga isn't still the second-highest-ranking member of the 1701's medical staff. Though there's no drive to see Mark Piper...which means he'll be the one more likely to make a cameo.

I know but nobody cares about Piper. They want Bones. You see Bones was on Earth dealing with divorce stuff with his ex-wife during the events of "Where No Man Has Gone Before." Piper was just filling in until he got back.

With Boyce their is no reason to show him or not show him. It's all about whether they can use him in away that makes for great drama or not. All depends on what the writers desires happen to be IMO. I suppose their is the nostalgia reason to show him. But that is a different issue from the issue of storytelling.

It's value comes most I suppose in getting fan worked up before the episode on the internet. Unless it's more of a Easter Egg use of the character as oppose to using him for anything major in terms of story. Maybe a photo on the wall or something. Pike drinking a martini and saying a old friend got him interested in the drink or something like that.

McCoy never talks about his predecessors either. Surprisingly, these topics of conversation come up very rarely in my conversations at work too.

Kirk literally mentions Pike in 2 out of his 79 episodes. Mirror Pike is referenced in onscreen dialogue in Season 2. That's it.
