Honestly, based on his recent nutjob rants, I figure Levy will be going the Dean Cain/Kevin Sorbo/Gina Carano route and pivoting to doing low budget direct to DVD/streaming Christian (and Right Wing in general) films. It certainly seems like he has that kind of temperament.
Yes, I preordered it on itunes. You know it is possible this takes off on streaming and recoups it money back.
Not really no - it's just too far under water.
The trade press says about $100m in marketing and $125m in production so $225m overall.
Let's say if manages to hit $150m worldwidw box office - even if lifetime revenues from all streams are 100% of box office gross (never happens) they are still in the hole.
I liked the film, but to your point...
This version was misguided from the start, and was doomed to collapse in on itself.
I'd prefer to see a solo Shazam animated series based on one of the Fawcett WW2 arcs, and take no inspiration from this terrible adaptation of DC properties.
A big(ish) blockbuster being dumped to streaming after three weeks. No one's expecting to make any money off it at this point.

i saw it with my familyin theaters, and we had a good time...It's perfect for today's kids.
Not the best, but solid fun.
I am surprised no one mentioned the end credit scene with Sivana and Mr. Mind....and how slowly his plan is (not) coming together... seems like a perfect parody video where they show them together eveyr couple of years.

I wasn't expecting a billion dollar film, but this movie got struck at multi levels -- from Covid delaying its release (and then being placed in a glut of movies that sucked the income from it), to Zaslav the anti-Monitor basically saying the DCFU is irrelevent, to overall lack of marketing...
I am sad to see this end. I would like to see more movies have fun like this, to balance out other stuff.

I commented that if a third film wasn't forthcoming that the post-credit scene would be even funnier.

Not amazing or anything, but I quite enjoyed it. I wasn't bored, and nothing in it made me roll my eyes or angry sigh. Most of all, I had fun.

I really enjoyed this movie (for what it was). I liked the first one better, but this was close. I loved the magic mixed with super hero stuffs. That alternate dimension library world was great. Loved the villains.
I was a bit shocked at how violent and outright disturbing it could be, especially above most super hero movies, this seems aimed more for kids (since the Shazams are kids). That opening scene was shockingly brutal, and there's a few more, like when the poor cool teacher comes to the roof....

That and many viewers have been primed to expect big, sweeping adventures that have huge consequences.
While there were some big stakes here, of course, things are more lighthearted and relaxed and I think that really benefited both of the films. It's good to have tha kind of balance in our superhero film options.
And yet both GOTG3 and Spider-Verse have made very healthy profits.
The days of superhero movies regularly making over a billion might br gone, but people will still turn out for the right movies.
Zach and Helen should have made out.
i still think The Rock insisting that Black Adam NOT be a part of SHazam was a huge mistake, and sabotaged Shazam from getting any momentum.
I think the release right around Ant Man didn't help, and that the February/March time really IS generally a dead zone. I think Black Panther was the exception rather than the new rule.

I have absolutely no "superhero fatigue" (which I don't even believe exists anyway), and I liked the first Shazam film and I still hated this one. Ignoring the fact that in between films its come out that Zachary Levi is a fairly detestable person, I just thought that the movie was poorly written, and neither the heroes or villains were particularly compelling.
In contrast I really liked Black Adam. Outside of the teenager (who could have easily been cut) I thought it was a very solid movie, not as good as TSS or WW1 but probably about as good as Aquaman (in different ways though, because they're very different films).
I think that Shazam 2 suffered more from the first movie not exactly setting the movie going audience on fire, and DC movies in particular having developed their particular reputation.
