Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Damn, the Daedalus went fast. Was hoping to snag one but it went quick.

I’d get the Andorian Cruiser but I don’t want to pay more for shipping than the cost of the ship. It wasn’t a must have anyway.

I went ahead and ordered Shuttle Alice. It got it already but broke off the nacelle antennae. This one will live in its box until needed.

Do dentists recommend the Tarellian "plaque" ship? :D
Tell me again what kind of doctor the Tarellians need? :ouch:

Here you go:

It's a bit more expensive than most, but they're doing a "buy 2 get 1 free" deal right now, in case there's a few others you want (and it also helps cancel out the shipping fees).

There's also a few other ships that aren't covered by the sale (including the mirror Defiant).
Thank you.

Oh vey. I considered getting a pair of Defiants to then rename* with bobmat343's decals into different Defiant-class ships. However, considering the cost for these, the decals, the nail varnish, the lock-in laque...it's actually cheaper to have custom Defiants made by GamePrint.

* I'm thinking USS Valiant NCC-74210 and USS Valiant NCC-75418 so they form a quartet with the STO and Eaglemoss Valiant-class prototypes.

At long last, the Caretaker's Array has arrived. The model is a much smaller scale than I expected, but I guess the dimensions dictate that. I really like the detailing on the arms, while still keeping them largely open. It's interesting to look at it from angles we never saw on the show.

I also got the OV-165 orbiter and this one is also truly a beautiful model. The detailing looks wonderful. It really resembles an Earth aricraft from the not-too-distant future.

Sadly, no mags with either.

The registry for the Valient (the first one) never sat right with me. I thought it was too close to the number for the Defiant. My assumption was that when the Defiant first arrived at DS9, it was still a prototype, with no other ships of its class, and that, after proving itself for at least several months, or a year, only then did Starfleet start to build more (at least by the tie of "A Call to Arms"). The Valiant's plaque suggests it was launched around DS9's 4th season (which would be consistent with that theory), but the number is lower than ships that are at least a year older than that, like Voyager.

That makes sense. I thought it was neat for a sister ship to have a registry close to the prototype’s.

Love the OV-165 as well. I spruced it up with bobmat343’s decals.

I've received a couple of the A4-sized hard copy magazines with MR and RM since some of the stock was the bagged ships intended for retail, which is always a pleasant surprise.

They still have them? Well, that's good to know. I don't think the newer unreleased models have them though - probably never printed. I'm still hoping that, one day, someone will release all the remaining PDF's that EM hadn't yet published online before they died.

Agreed on your pdf point.

From both I've received the bagged models where the magazine was included in the bags, i think those were originally intended for newstands/comic shops. I also ordered a couple extra TOS ships for my kid from one of RealMerch's 25% off sales (they ended up being like $12 so I couldn't resist)and they threw in the magazines for a couple of them, which i wasn't expecting because they also email you the pdfs. Although one of the magazines I received was in German, lol.

I'd like to see if someone can convert it into the office complex, which would be tricky, since it would involve adding things, rather than removing them.
If I were to try it, I’d stick two of the wreath segments together.
But, and I know it’s irrational, the Orbital Office Complex feels like it is upside down, despite being the original configuration. I dislike that.

I might be tempted to place a Regula atop that—both jointed stem to stem…with a torus around the join.

I’d have the so called shuttlebays just be giant impulse units.

Heh, I’ve watched TMP way more than TWOK, so it’s the opposite for me.

Funny, cause Andrew Probert has specifically said in interviews that he intended it in the original formation. I forget exactly what, but he pointed out some specific details that were meant to be oriented a certain way.

Here's a theory that's an easy way to smooth it out: when the Defiant was given a registry number, a certain amount of other numbers in the same range were reserved for potential future Defiant-class vessels. As a result, once mass production started, X amount of vessels were able to use that range, including the Valiant. Once these were all used up, higher registries started being used, like NCC-75633 for the Sao Paulo.
