Do you think we will see Doctor Boyce in season 2?

John Hoyt wasn't even 60 when he played Boyce. Hell, he was younger than I am right now! Seems unlikely Boyce would dead in the SNW time frame. Barring some horrible accident or sickness.
Boyce got horribly injured and disfigured saving cadets from an old Class J Starship as well. Damn things were death traps.

What was the fate of Dr Boyce?

After Christopher Pike told him that he might start a business in the Orion colonies (as an Orion Trader dealing in green animal women slaves); after the events depicted in The Cage, Boyce thought, "Wow what a great idea, sounds nicer than what I'm doing these days...".

So he promptly resigned his Commission and made a beeline for the Orion colonies where he now runs a large Harem and Bar.

M'Benga framed Boyce for medical misconduct so he could take Boyce's place and use the Enterprise's transporter systems for his daughter. Boyce insists he's innocent and claims M'Benga framed him, but is unable to present any proof. The controversy gets big enough that even though there's no proof, Kirk finds Boyce's story credible enough to remove M'Benga from CMO during his captainship, but is unable to go further than that without proof.

Maybe he'll show up this season on the side of the prosecution in Una's trial and trashing the hell out of her in testimony.

It’d be nice to have Boyce pass through for an ep ‘ala Sarek in TNG. Doesn’t need to be the A story, could have him dealing with retirement or some other life issue and just seeking out an old and trusted friend or group of friends for support.

Yeah, Boyce could simply be seen on a comm channel talking of old times with his friend Pike.

And as for who'll play him? Len Cariou. I tottally called it. :mallory:

Why not? If we're going to have returning characters from this era at least make it ones that I haven't been burnt out with already.

I'm also in the camp that Boyce's time on the Enterprise has since passed by the time of SNW. I don't think every character needs a callback. Some people do simply leave and move on to other things and aren't seen or heard from again.

M'Benga may be far more the rare exception that he left the Enterprise as chief medical officer under Pike and returned as a specialist under Kirk (or at least Kirk didn't know him the first time McCoy introduced him).

Thing with Boyce is we really have only one memorable scene with him. So in many ways he might as well be a new character. But one with built in potential in that he was a close friend and confidant to Pike.

Una already fills that role.

I think they have a different dynamic. Boyce you could say is almost a father figure. Were Una is someone who is more like a equal in they are both command level officers. I suspect Pike has known Boyce longer than he has known Una. Plus Una is more closed off and will offer you advice that is logical were as Boyce is more of a Dr McCoy type straight shooter. More outwardly emotional.

Lets not forget that Una didn't come clean about being genetically engineered to even Pike so while they are friends I am thinking it's more like how Picard and RIker were friends. Their is still a distance. Well until they become old men in Picard season 3. What Pike had with Boyce would be more in lines with Picard's friendship with Dr Crusher. If we were to extend the TNG analogy.
