I suppose if you cut out every scene with Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carey and remove the plot involving the brainwave device, you might be able to make a darker take out of it maybe.
But something tells me the tone is pretty much baked into the whole movie by virtue of the plot and acting styles.
Unless it gets rid of the vacu-formed nipples on the male Batman and Robin costumes, and the codpiece shots; no, not interested

If the report is true, it's disappointing that they're only testing white actors for the leads.

I think other people are working on the black Superman story.
Getting rid of May being a portrayed as a helpless old lady who Peter was sure would die if she knew his secret, getting rid of Peter and May constantly worrying about losing their house because here they smartly realized it wasn't worth it and moved to a smaller affordable space, Peter being able to take advantage of things like Science Scholarships which he seemed to never do in the comics, and Spider-Man's place in a world loaded with other superheroes rather than act like he's the only hero who exists.
Meanwhile instead of appreciating this, there are outdated folks complaining that Peter isn't constantly late paying every bill and getting in trouble because he can't get a better job than a photographer.
I disagree. The MCU version was the first version that actually made him feel and act like a teenager. It really went back to the core of the original character and I found it refreshing.
I believe some split the 3 Spider-men actors into different eras of Spider-man.
Maguire- Ditko.
Garfield- I think Ultimate Spider-man?
Holland- Modern times?
There are other ethnicities than white or black. Heck, we've already had a 1/4-Japanese Superman, Dean Cain, although he identifies as white.
And I think it's high time the role of Lois Lane was opened up to a more diverse casting pool. We're already getting an Asian-American Lois in the upcoming My Adventures with Superman animated series.
I don’t really care about the teenager part. To me he’s not THE Spider-Man until after that phase.

if anything Holland was Ultimate since he was a school kid for that entire run. Plus Samuel Jackson Fury was a large role there.
Thanks to the MCU reducing the character to a Stark-worshiping Spidey-Lad who bounced around like a character with no sense of the kind of life he lived in costume, or its consequences--like the greatest Spider-Man stories from the Silver/Bronze Age.

Yeah. I don't understand why modern adaptations are so obsessed with reverting Peter Parker to high school. The comics' Peter spent only 30-some issues in high school before starting college in 1965, and he graduated college in 1978. In the 45 years since, he's been married and had a kid (who died), and he's gone through various careers. For nearly 3/4 of the character's existence, he has been an adult. It's only the Ultimate version who's defined more by being a teenager.
I completely agree. Unless there are alternate takes out there of Jones and Carrey performing in a more subdued and nuanced style instead of two guys trying to out-Joker Jack Nicholson's performance then I'm not interested.
I'm supposed to be impressed? Because I wasn't. Although older than Marissa Tomei, even Rosemary Harris and Sally Field never portrayed May as a "frail" old lady. And the presence of Holland, Maguire and Garfield couldn't save certain aspects of that 3rd movie's narrative for me. I'm just not that impressed by the MCU Spider-Man movies.
