So with GOTG 3 now well into profit I think it's safe to say the Ant-Man III's failure is less down to MCU Fatigue and more to it simply not being a good movie and the word-of-mouth reflecting that.

I thought it was a reasonably good movie, just not what people look for in an Ant-Man/Wasp movie. And it wasn't entirely successful in making its two title characters feel central to the story; it was really more Janet and Cassie's movie (although I guess Janet owns the name Wasp as much as Hope does).

I may be aging out of the demographics but I still want all these superhero, fantasy and other genre to succeed.
I hope Marvel goes back to the pre-pandemic success that it had, though Phase 4 was a horrible bore.

Curious how Fury says the reason he doesn't bring in any of his "special friends" to deal with this invasion is because he needs to do it alone and yet he's dealing with Rhodey. Granted Rhodey isn't expected to suit up in this series and we don't know the context of their conversations (we know of at least two, one in the empty restaurant and one in an office), but that stood out here.

I'm hoping that the reason for Fury doing it alone is tied with his connections with the Skrull refuges and his off-world sabbatical and not some generic lone wolf motive that's driven by "we need this character to do this thing alone.

I don't buy that. I've seen too many box office hits that I thought were utter crap. And I've seen my share of box office flops that I had genuinely enjoyed. I'm sorry, but I find the idea of judging a movie based on box office returns irrelevant. I liked "Ant-Man 3", regardless of its box office.

Ray Stevenson, who had portrayed Volstagg in the first three Thor movies, had died yesterday, while filming a movie in Italy - Ray Stevenson Dead: 'Punisher: War Zone,' 'RRR' Actor Was 58 - Variety. He was four days shy of his 59th birthday. Stevenson was also known for portraying Frank Castle in two "Punisher" movies. And he was known for his performances in "Rome", the "Divergent" film series, "Black Sails" "Dexter", Star Wars "The Clone Wars" and "Rebels" and "Vikings". R.I.P. Mr. Stevenson.

Godsdamn. 15 years? I feel old. I was post-college, waiting to go to Navy boot camp, and this film and The Dark Knight were the two great films that summer. Truly astounding it's been that long.

I really enjoyed that conversation and I loved how they emphasized the importance of finding the balance between humor and touching emotional beats. Like one of them said, if you can connect the audience with the former, then you're able to reel them in for the latter and really make a connection. That's what this film did in spades and, as Feige noted, has been the template for the MCU ever since.

I loved that Ryan Coogler story Feige brought, about how Coogler saw Feige, Favreau, and Downey Jr. sneaking in late to one of the premieres because Coogler was running late at the concessions stand. He saw how the three of them walked confidently about the film and that filled him with hope that this film was going to be special.

In other news, a site called Murphy's Multiverse (I've never heard of them but io9 seems to trust them) claims that Rosa Salazar has joined the cast of Captain America: New World Order as Diamondback. While I haven't seen the films she's best known for, I loved her work in Amazon's brilliant series Undone (with Bob Odenkirk!). I'm not familiar with that particular character but a quick look on Wikipedia indicates she has a long history with Captain America.

Meanwhile, and this is purely speculative, Halle Berry tweeted a photo of herself sporting a new hairstyle that looks a lot like Storm's and now fans think she might be in Deadpool 3.

Usually she's one of Steve's Love Interests, a sort of Catwoman to his Batman.

I wonder if they'll transfer that to Sam instead.
