Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

Curious to know what everyone's favourite or best rated design is from S2 and S3. Mine is the Intrepid. It's different enough from the FASA design it's based on with an original not-quite-circular saucer that makes it look surprisingly modern compared with the E-G.

Just to bring the topic back to PIC, Bernd has now added all the starships seen in Season 3 to his list on Ex Astris Scientia! He doesn't add any BTS information on the starships nor anything said on twitter by Matalas or Dave Blass. He does mention something being 'almost official lore'. I do take Bernd's opinion in high regard given the amount of work he's consistently put into his site and I use it as a resource often and browse through it while I'm at work

Isn't he still throwing a hissy fit over the size of the JJPrise?

Huh, So the Edison and Alita class were in the Fleet to? I like STO but they don't have to make EVERY ship that they have Cannon.. Some are good looking, some are okay, others are just Fugly..

Since last season I have often questioned the logic of their choices of STO ships. Most of them, like STO ships in general, are just derivative of older classes rather than being speculative about what year 2400+ Starfleet would look like. There are some designs which are tolerable, but pretty much every STO ship they’ve used so far are just based on older ships.

Isn't that the general consensus for the TNG and beyond when they showed new ships? The only real outliers were the blink and you miss background ships, and the Defiant.

Bernd did bring up a theory that I haven't thought about. What if the lower than 1700 ships where Sombra or at least started off as Sombra?

I like his site, have it bookmarked right at the top. Since I'm a 3d, its where I go if i'm wondering sizes etc.
He does refer to the size sheet that Dave put out for the new ships though. He may complain, but its up there.

Oh course he does.

Oh well..... it's his site.
He also ignores the STO ships that are redesigned Discovery ships as not being that in-universe. :nyah:

"In-universe in canon Trek, this is not an update to, or a "re-imagination" of, the old Shepard class from Star Trek: Discovery, but rather an all-new design."

He's also ignoring the Syracuse's registry because of how way it off it is for a Galaxy class.

I'm not gonna deny that his site isn't a wonderful resource for gathering certain bits of info or pics...

That said...

I think that ever since Star Trek (2009) came out, he's become the personification of "close minded Trekkie." It borders on arrogance. I remember the fit he threw over the 725m Enterprise from the Kelvin flims. How he just chose to ignore the numbers because he, in his infinite knowledge, knew better then those who made the films.

Honestly, I can't stand that attitude from fans. But that's me. I still occasionally use the site if I'm looking for something specific, but I haven't just browsed the site in years.

It started way before that. He hated the NX-01 and all the perceived continuity violations in Enterprise too.
That's right! I forgot about that! I always figured he hated that purely based on the fact it contradicted his own little pre-Federation timeline that he carved out.

The Enterprise was not "scrappy"! WTF? Underdog? When they were writing TOS the Enterprise was supposed to be the largest thing put in space by the Federation. Where the heck do we get "underdog" from that?

He's not talking about the Enterprise during its prime; he's talking about the Enterprise in its later years when it was scrappy -- the time of the films (whose Constitution refit the Constitution III class is designed to look like). The original Enterprise was seen as outdated and used as a cadet training ship in The Wrath of Khan; she was due to be scrapped in The Search for Spock; the Enterprise-A was still glitching all the time in The Final Frontier; and she was due for retirement and outmatched by the Excelsior again in The Undiscovered Country.

100%. Absolutely the living embodiment of closed-minded legalism over artistry. And he's made some very troubling statements about race in modern Trek too.
