It's TruFan vs. NuFan in the battle for the Heart of the franchise!

    Lines are drawn...

    Sides will be chosen...

    Families will be torn apart...

    Who will YOU side with?

    STAY TUNED!

    Same Tru Time!
    Same Tru Channel!

Seriously though, it doesn’t need to be this way. There’s enough Trek for everyone.

Oh I agree. Just sometimes seems like the "TruFans" would rather the "NuFans" go and play in a different park.

They can't seem to accept that we're all playing the same game.

It's almost like there is a plethora of different options and opinions in different combinations on Trek.

If only some sort of catch phrase or acronym existed to capture this sentiment.

Your local Walmart sells Star Trek model kits? Damn. I don't even remember the last time I saw Star Trek model kits in a brick and mortar store.

Every Christmas all three have a huge pop display of models, paints and glue.

    That’s cool.

I remember 20 years ago almost all Walmarts had a decent model kit section, but similar to @The Wormhole I haven’t seen kits in mine in well over a decade. The Targets still sometimes have the occasional Star Wars or Gundam kit in the collector’s section.

I have some luck at the local Walmarts but only during Christmas and may up until February. Hobby Lobby is hit and miss at times but I get lucky occasionally.

That's kind of the point, they're a modern "Urban Legend".

Kind of like the TV show "Alias" where SD-6 was just one of many branches of the "Alliance of Twelve" or SD(1-12).

Who's to say that Section 31 wouldn't have moved on from it's "Official Capacity" back in the DISCO era of the 23rd century and gone completely underground.

They might even have 31 different Branches spread across all over the UFP, hidden in plain sights as organizations posing as one thing, but secretly operating as a Branch Agency of Section 31 with agents all over the place, in many places of power or importance.

Each Branch largely operating independently of each other with agents that are "Disposable" should the need arise.

The most prominent dividing line in the franchise at the moment is between broadly pro-NuTrek people and anti-NuTrek people. It should be fair game to discuss why say certain merchandising decisions are made. And loaded terms get thrown around all the time... "gatekeepers", "true fans"...

We don't have enough data points to make an informed discussion. As I said, I see model kits from both Legacy and newer shows and both sell. I see figures from Legacy that don't sell. I see figures from Newer Trek that do sell. But, it's all anecdotal so it limits how much we know. What are the broader toy trends? How much is actually being sold? What are people buying? If even Hasbro struggles with merchandising Star Wars (and they do) then why would Star Trek, which historically has never sold like Star Wars, do better?

I hate to be that person, but the first two seasons of DSC took place in the 23rd Century. 2256 to 2258. It was marketed as "10 years before TOS" not "100 years before TOS". I know the navy blue uniforms throw some people off, but still...

If it's not on screen, it's not part of the official continuity - what fans call "canon."

    The End.

Heh - if it came to that, well, the NuFans are rooting for the team that owns the bat, the ball, and the park. ;)
