I am curious if force fields are a real thing or could ever be possible? Specifically wondering if they could be used to reduce noise from....say...noisy neighbours? Generally, the technology seems like it would have a lot of applications.

Force fields, as depicted in Trek, are strictly science-fiction. Could it be possible one day? Who knows? There's been some real research and studies in the subject, and some minor dabbling with charged plasma bubbles and magnetic field manipulation at a couple of universities, but nothing that could remotely stop phasers or photon torpedoes. I guess though we have to start somewhere...

Perhaps you are thinking of "noise cancellation" that is almost like a force field?

No, noise cancellation is really just using a noise to cancel out other noises and it doesn't really help with impact noises. Just my wishful thinking that someday some advanced weapons shield could also be utilised to prevent me from hearing my neighbours' stomping that shakes the whole house
