I don't think we'll see another Kelvin film. I hope we don't see another TNG film. We've had multiple goodbyes to this cast. We don't need another one. If Legacy happens, let those who want to show up there. Otherwise just let it go. But that's just my $0.02.
No.I mean, the Franklin is an NX-class ship if not for “20% different to be legally distinct” issues, isn’t it?)
Krall/Edison is a former MACO who fought the Xindi and the Romulans.Always thought it strange that Beyond tied into ENT so strongly in places. (I mean, the Franklin is an NX-class ship if not for “20% different to be legally distinct” issues, isn’t it?)

Yeah mate, I know. Saw the film. It’s the only Kelvin one I like enough to own on disc.Krall/Edison is a former MACO who fought the Xindi and the Romulans.
You have to let stories end. Please for the love of God. The world is choking on stories that are trapped in an eternal middle.
“20% different to be legally distinct” issues, isn’t it?
This cast has gone out with a bang and a fantastic farewell that fixed the problems we've had with TNG post All Good Things. I'd rather they left it there. I'm not saying that these characters should never appear (ST Legacy), but as a group it was a perfect send off. I'm not sure there is much else to do with them as a group - is there anything still left in the air? I'm certainly not against seeing these characters again like we saw some of them in DS9/Voy but that's about it. I certainly don't want a repeat of what happened with Nemesis being a sour ending.
"The Last Generation" should be the last time we see the TNG cast together, and the last time we see Jean-Luc Picard period.

Now I just want a good story from start to finish.
I find absolutist positioning like this frustrating. Who are you to decide? This is nothing more than your personal preference.
... duh?
Plus, the cut a lot of corners by having a vast majority of the movie's sets be reused TNG sets."But Star Trek VI came together in under two years!" That was a different time. The movies weren't as effects-heavy back then, there were fewer shots, the motion wasn't constant, and the editing wasn't all chop-chop-chop fast-fast-fast.
As mentioned, that's an urban legend that has no basis in fact, but even putting that aside, the myth says that policy took effect with Disco and all TV productions going forward from there, so even if it were real (which it's not) it would not have been an issue for Beyond anyway.(I mean, the Franklin is an NX-class ship if not for “20% different to be legally distinct” issues, isn’t it?)
Insightful!
This is an urban legend and not documented anywhere.
Not an urban legend exactly. John Eaves and his crew were asked to make the design of the new Enterprise 25% different. Its even documented on some of his drawings! What is not true is that it was for 'legal reasons' - this seems to be something that Eaves inferred incorrectly (based on his understanding of what happened on other projects).
This is a direct quote from Eaves' subsequently deleted Facebook account.
"The task started with the guideline that the Enterprise for Discovery had to be 25% different otherwise production would have most likely been able to use the original design from the 60's but that couldn't happen so we took Jefferies original concepts and with great care tried to be as faithful as possible."
I realised that Eaves would probably delete the Facebook post (not his entire account!) and so I copied some of the chat, so the typos below aren't mine.....
"Scott Schneider Alex Rosenzweig and the 25% is typically the number used when making one product similar to another. It must be at least 25% different in order to avoid copyright infringement. This is common with many products. Ive also come up against this in the past when using inspiration from other ideas that were copyrighted. In fact back on coneheads we used Libbius woods designs for Remulak and production was threatened with a lawsuit because it was too close and we had to change the models "20-25% " to avoid a lawsuit. This is nothing new or exclusive to trek."
"Gabriel Charles Koerner Man, its just baffling, considering that CBS can sell the original Constitution Class design in form of toys, model kits, all manners of licensed merch... but it can't be included in new Trek TV productions?"
"John Eaves Samuel Cockings your asking the wrong guy. I only know there is a division of property and when the task at hand asks for 25% changes or a whole new design I know that what ever it is is not allowed to be used"
"John Eaves after Enterprise properties of Star Trek, ownership changed hands and was devided so what was able to cross show VS tV up to that point changed and a lot of the cross over was no longer allowed. That is why when JJ's movie came along everything had to be different. the alternate universe concept was what really made that movie happen in a way as to not cross the new boundries and give Trek a new footing to continue."
